Ernest Hale Collection

Diaries and scrapbooks created by Ernest Hale as a record of each year from the date he met his (later) wife. The diaries begin in 1901-1902, each year begins on 30 September as that was the day they met. 1901-1902 was the fifth year of their relationship. There are also account books by Ernest Hale showing how much he spent each week, and an account book by Mrs Florence E Hale from 1910-1911 containing household accounts.

Ernest Robinson Collection

The collection mainly comprises of letters sent to Ernest Robinson of Tooting while he was on active duty with the MEF during World War Two and afterwards. They include letters from friends in the armed forces, letters from his mother and letters from friends at home in Tooting. There are also photograph albums and religious books.

This was later subject of a compulsory purchase order by the London County Council to form part of the Ashburton Estate. Some documents relate to the owners (the Roffey family builders) and their own residences at 46 Chartfield Avenue (formerly Chartfield Road), 26 Charlwood Avenue and 71B Dorking Rd Epsom; and to other property at 38 and 40 Charlwood Avenue.
