Letter from Henry Peter Brougham of St Kilda to William Erskine, Esq, at Mr Dundas's, St Andrews Square, Edinburgh, 10 Aug [1799]. 'You owe this letter more to a frolic than anyting else: several of us thought of writing just to try whether by any chance their Epistles would reach, so I address mine to you to let you know that your description of St. Kilda is perfectly poetical but does not contain one word of truth. My sea sickness prevents me writing this myself ...'. Written in another hand and signed by Brougham. Endorsed in Erskine's hand: 'H. Brougham, St. Kilda 10 Aug. 1799, rec'd 6 Novem. 1799'.

Papers created by Alfred Claude Bromhead during his time in Russia, 1916-1917, and a varied collection of miscellany compiled by him, with items dating from 1510 to the 1930s. These include a contemporary illustration of the funeral procession of Anne of Cleves in 1557 and a collection of engravings of the life of the Virgin by Alberto Durer from 1510. There are also volumes of sketches of London and letters and newspaper cuttings, the subjects of which include the history of London, criminology and The Gentlemen's Magazine.

The archive, 1885-1919, consists of Minutes: UEEA finance committee, UBWEA council and South African Expansion Committee, British Women's Emigration Association (BWEA) council, information, factory scheme, hostel and advisory committee; Annual reports of UBWEA and BWEA; press cuttings books; correspondence and copy correspondence; BWEA papers for council meeting.

The archive consists of records, mostly originating from the General Secretary, of the British Vigilance Association, 1923-1971. These include campaign and resource files (prostitution, immoral earnings, and conditions of employment for au pair girls), correspondence with individuals and organisations, fragments of other administrative series and files relating to the final winding up of the British Vigilance Association (BVA), International Bureau for the Suppression of Traffic in Persons (IBS) and their associated organisations in 1971.

The archive consists of two parts.

Part 1 consists of records collated during Billington-Grieg's membership of a large number of international women's organisations, associated correspondence, drafts of papers presented at conferences, as well as publications received from the organisations. In addition there are papers related to her unpublished biography of Charlotte Despard.

Billington Grieg was a keen suffrage historian, and her historical writings on suffrage (as well as papers reflecting her own suffrage activism) are represented in her archive.
