This scrapbook consists of press cuttings, mainly from the national press, concerning the events of the First World War.

Inscribed on the flyleaf: 'These press cuttings were collected by Dame Adelaide Anderson during the early years of the Great War, 1914-18.'

The collection contains 2 parts. Part A contains letters regarding Elizabeth Garrett Anderson's struggle to secure an entry into the medical profession. Part B contains letters which discuss the Franco-Prussian war, the London School Board and her engagement to James Anderson.

The archive consists of two parts.

Part 1 consists of records collated during Billington-Grieg's membership of a large number of international women's organisations, associated correspondence, drafts of papers presented at conferences, as well as publications received from the organisations. In addition there are papers related to her unpublished biography of Charlotte Despard.

Billington Grieg was a keen suffrage historian, and her historical writings on suffrage (as well as papers reflecting her own suffrage activism) are represented in her archive.

The archive consists of 4 letters from the Sunday Pictorial and a diploma signed by Lord Woolton, dated 1 Nov 1941, all re wartime rationing. Also typescript of Mrs Fyffe's account of a week's routine in feeding her household of two adults and five children, with a summary of housekeeping expenditure for a week in Sep 1941, and details of each day's meals during that week.

The archive consists of one folder, a diary entitled 'The Price of Liberty'.

The 1917 diary entries were written on the ' Mission to the Women of Russia'. The 1917 entries are flanked by an 'introduction' and by discursive notes, written in the 1960s, on the cultural and historical links of Russia and Great Britain, the fate of the Women's Battalions, an essay on Mazzini, and a concluding section on the Price of Library.

The diary refers to the atmosphere and events in St Petersburg and Moscow, also the meetings addressed by Jessie Kenney and Mrs Pankhurst. They met the leader of one of the Women's Battalions, formed to defend Russia against invasion, and many notables including Kerensky, Prince Youssoupoff, and Plekhanov, the leader of the Menshevik Party.

The archive consists of three diaries of Eunice Guthrie Murray, a member of the Women's Freedom League (with full transcript by her grand-niece Frances Sylvia Martin), covering the period 1895-1918; with copy death certificate of Eunice Guthrie Murray. The archive consists of a photocopy of a typescript autobiographical essay by Kay Pilpel entitled, 'Growing up in the 1930s' in which she describes her family background, the Jewish community in London from the 1890s onwards, and her daily life as a child and schoolgirl at Tottenham High School for Girls, including her experience of evacuation during the Second World War. The essay is illustrated with family trees and includes copies of family photographs.

Referring to Banks's visit to Iceland and complaining of the severe effects of war [i.e the Napoleonic Wars] on the trade of that country. 'For it is altogether unavoidable for this Island to escape hunger if it is only to hold out one single winter without being supplied with provisions.'
