The manuscripts in the collection consist of fifty-two letters written by thirty-seven scientists. They are arranged alphabetically by writer and date between 1677 and 1873. Among those which discuss scientific projects and topics is a letter, written in 1772, from Edward Bancroft (1744-1821) to Sir Joseph Banks (1743-1820) about preserving ships' timbers from the ravages of 'aquatic worms'. Another, 1823, from Sir John Herschel (q.v.) to Pierre Simon, Marquis de la Place (1749-1827) is concerned with Sir William Herschel's discovery of the distances and position of the double stars and the series of experiments, using binary systems, carried out by Sir John to verify the discovery. Astronomy is again the subject of a letter of 1854 from Sir George Airy (1801-1892) to Urbain Le Verrier (1811-1877) on the arrangement of an apparatus for the galvanic register of observations, simultaneously at Greenwich and Paris, for the determination of longitude. The majority of documents in this collection have, however, been collected for their autograph value. Other than the prominent scientists mentioned above, the letters include those by William Brouncker (1620-1684), 1677 and 1685; John Flamstead (1646-1719), 1695 and 1703; Nevile Maskelyne (1732-1811), 1784; Joseph Priestly (1733-1804), 1772; William Scoresby (1789-1857), 1827 and Michael Faraday (1791-1867), 1857.

The collection includes ledgers showing pledges, stock and sales books; balance sheets and accounts; certificates of incorporation or memorandum and articles of agreement; correspondence covering a range of topics including the robbery of the Holloway Branch, letters from customers and matters relating to the closure or liquidisation of branches. There are also a series of auction sale catalogues (a family member was also a director of the London Bridge Auction Rooms) showing lots put for sale by Thomsons.

Records of G Street and Company Limited, bookseller, newsagent and stationer. The earliest records of the firm date from 1865. There are some earlier share certificates, 1825-54, but these appear to have belonged to John Leathwait, presumably a predecessor of Leathwait and Simmons, an advertising agency and newspaper supply firm, which Streets took over in 1918.

Records of George Jesse Dawson and his son Percy George Dawson, antique clock case makers and restorers. The records comprise job books and accounts.

Papers relating to the work of Amelia Fysh (nee Bullen), mainly at Beech Green Nursery School, Aylesbury, Bucks. Much of the material relates to her work on the relation of children's drawings to their development and includes originals and photocopies of the children's drawings, photographs of the children playing and working at the nursery school, and Amelia's research notes, papers and correspondence regarding her efforts to get the work published. The collection includes a copy of her publication 'Discovering Development with the 3-5s: a longitudinal study, 1964-1973', published c1997.

There are a number of personal files relating to Amelia's own education, her career in education provision, and her research into child development in other countries. These latter papers appear to have been created on an ad hoc basis during her travels abroad. There are also a number of publications regarding child development, pre-school education and education for children with learning and physical disabilities.

For the parent company the records in the Museum include: ship files from the Naval Architect's Department, 1941 to 1961; building and service files from the Superintendent's Department, 1947 to 1964; movement books, 1946 to 1966; Charter Parties arranged by the Charter Department, 1917 to 1965; financial records, including wages and salaries, 1911 to 1958; one volume of commission accounts (mainly North American berths and the Danube), 1896 to 1952. There are papers for the three companies concerned in the South American trade: the Argentine Cargo Line Limited, minutes, 1908 to 1918; freight agreements, mainly 1908 to 1910 and printed reports, 1909 to 1917; the British and Argentine Steam Navigation Co Ltd, minutes, 1911 to 1934; meat contracts, 1914 to 1915; Furness-Houlder Argentine Lines, freight agreements (including Brazilian fruit and meat), 1914 to 1921; balance sheets and profit and loss accounts, 1940 to 1946. Papers of Sir Cyril Thomas Moulden Fuller consisting of volumes of letters, orders and signals relating to the campaign in Togoland and the Cameroons. There are also maps and surveys of the Cameroons, some printed material in German and some chapters on the campaign, in proof, for the Official History of the War [Naval Operations]. All the correspondence in the papers is reflected in the minutes, and some comparable loose papers are also attached to the minutes. The papers do, however, in many instances provide greater detail, including some additional plans.

The decision to take the subject group as the basic unit, although unavoidable both because of the original order and the size of the collection, means that the list is in some ways summary. In particular:

1) The form of documents is not usually given. Most groups are composed primarily of correspondence.

2) The name of the party is only given when one, or occasionally two or three, persons or authorities are involved.

3) The party may or may not be the same person as a party named as the subject of the correspondence.

The collection mainly consists of a set of Isabel Fry's personal diaries and notebooks dating from 1878-1958. These are supplemented by letters to her friend Eugénie Dubois, c1930-1958, and a few publications and photographs. The diaries reflect all aspects of her life and career including her teaching activities and educational ideas; her preoccupations with political and social affairs, including political reform and emancipation in the East and in Turkey and Persia; her friendships with liberal intellectuals; and her involvement with anti-militarist movements, slum clearance, socialism and feminism. Also included are details of her relationship with her family, friends and their wider social circle.

The collection consists of Minutes of Committee Meetings and Annual General Meetings of the group from 1961-1987. There is also a large scrapbook detailing the activities and workings of the group at the hospital. The scrapbook contains newsletters, newspaper cuttings, thank you letters from staff and patients, photographs of events, and other ephemera.
