The records comprise: Charters 1662-196; Court and committee minutes 1655-1987; copy minutes of Commissioners for Indian Affairs 1699-1818; and court attendance books 1937-63 and 1970-1. Financial records 1649-1979.

Correspondence and papers about Indians and Indian affairs in New England 1657-1764; papers relating to the proceedings of the Company 1649-56; reports on Company affairs and undertakings 1822-6; deeds and papers concerning missions in Canada 1828-1934; papers about support for missionary activity in West Indies and Canada 1961-76; and papers about the sale of the Mohawk Institute 1961-7.

ACCEPTING HOUSES COMMITTEE

The Accepting Houses Committee did not keep minutes of its meetings until 1920 "owing to the secrecy of many of the matters dealt with" (Ms 29295/1). Business was mainly carried out by the executive committee (Ms 29295), although annual general meetings were held for a short time, from 1939 to 1944 (Ms 29294). A number of standing and sub-committees were set up subsequently. The earliest was the Technical or Experts sub-committee in 1940 (Ms 29298); other committees, concerning such matters as export finance and computers, were established in the 1970s (Mss 29298-305).

Apart from minutes and associated papers, the main series of records of the Committee comprise reports and accounts (Mss 29306-7), circulars (Mss 29308-9) and membership files (Ms 29310). Among the remaining records (Mss 29311-327) there are a number of files relating to the role and future of the Committee at various points in its existence, and discussions about the criteria for membership.

Access to records less than 30 years old should be sought from the London Investment Banking Association (contact details may be obtained from staff).

Records of the London Stock Exchange dating from 1798. IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING ACCESS: These records are stored at the Guildhall Library site rather than the LMA Clerkenwell site. Researchers wishing to access these records should do so at the Guildhall Library Rare Books table. The Library is open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 to 16:45. Researchers will need to have an Archives History Card or a Library Readers Card. An archivist will be available at Guildhall Library on Thursday mornings to answer any queries.

Records include transcript of the deed of settlement of the Stock Exchange; minutes of the General Purposes Committee and various sub-committees; minutes of the Trustees and Managers; minutes of the Council; minutes of the Federation of Stock Exchanges Committees; administrative records including legal papers, notices, circulars, letters and correspondence, petitions, and reports; financial records including stamp duty books, journals and cash books; applications for membership; members lists and registers; clerks registers; membership statistics; applications for listing; reports regarding applications for permission to deal; papers regarding opposition to listing of certain companies; papers of the Department for the Administration of Defaulters' Estates; specifications, plans and elevations of Exchange buildings; photographs of senior staff from 1886-1900; and a short history (in manuscript) written in 1932.

The manuscript archives of the Exchange are immediately available for research with the exception of the "Applications for Listing" (CLC/B/004/MS18000 and CLC/B/004/MS18000A) which are available by appointment only.

Some of the records are indexed by name and/or place. The whereabouts of the records of the Northern and Scottish Rating Committees is unknown.
