Working papers and correspondence of Sir John Henry Gaddum. The scientific material in the collection centres on a run of student and laboratory notebooks for 1922-1965, together with files of notes and calculations on biological assay and other topics. Further papers concentrate on Gaddum's teaching and publications in the form of lecture scripts, typescripts of articles and related correspondence. Material on his administrative work includes correspondence on conferences and organizations, with some Royal Society papers, but also Physiological Society letters, 1936-1941. Non-paper records such as slides and personal souvenirs are also preserved.

A collection of medals and tokens, largely scientific awards, but with some miscellaneous items in base and precious metals. The core of the series consists of specimens of the Royal Society's own 15 medals and awards, from the earliest (the Copley Medal 1731) to the most recent (the Gabor Medal 1989). This includes some given to named Fellows and returned to the Society as gifts or bequests. Other items include prizes of foreign scientific academies, and pieces commemorating individual Fellows and Foreign Members.

Correspondence, mainly to Martin Folkes on a large variety of subjects, including administrative matters for the Royal Society.

Largely dating from the period 1961-1972.

A collection of articles and letters sent to the Royal Geographical Society for publication in its Journals. This material covers all aspects of geography and exploration across the globe. This includes material from some of the most celebrated 19th and early 20th Century explorations, throughout the World. The articles were often sent to referees and their reports are often to be found with the article, in some cases the referee report has been retained even though the article has been returned to the author.

The Register Books contain copies of scientific papers submitted to the Society - the original documents may be found in the Classified Papers. The papers were transcribed in order to establish their precedence for a particular discovery or idea. Therefore not all communications to the Society were registered in this manner, but only those judged to contain some significant material. Dates as listed are those in which the paper was communicated to the Royal Society; dates of writing, where given, are included in the description of each paper. Many of the these papers were published in 'Philosophical Transactions'.

The Early Library (Ref: SC/EL/1-5), comprising c500 printed works collected by the Society before 1830, including journals and periodicals, and c300 pamphlets and tracts covering broad-ranging topics relating to premiums and awards of the various sectional committees (Agriculture, Polite Arts, Chemistry, Manufactures, Mechanics, and Colonies and Trade), and including extracts from proceedings of other societies and learned institutions.

Records of the Artists League of Great Britain, formerly the Imperial Arts League. The records relate mainly to the administration of the league. The earliest material are the council minutes from 1909. There are also files of individual members; especially interesting is the file of Sydney Cockerell, bookbinder, which includes samples of hand made end-papers. Also of interest are the subject files on sketching and painting in war time (1915-1942) and a file of newspaper cuttings (1939-1940) concerning exhibitions and bequests during the war.

Records of the Field Lane Foundation. The earliest records date to 1842 in its incarnation as the Sabbath School. These comprise management committee minutes which run as a continuous series to 1984 and reflect the change from Sabbath School to Ragged School in 1850.

Important series include the deeds and papers of Field Lane dating from 1801 to 1961. There are also series relating to each of the major homes and organisations associated with or run by the Field Lane Association including the Home Workers Aid Association and the 5 holiday or retirement homes: Eastwood, Dovers, The Priory, Holly Hill and Singholm. There is also a set of annual reports from 1847-1996 and a series of printing blocks used for many of the Field Lanes' publications.

Records of the District Surveyors Association, consisting of committee minutes dating from 1845, correspondence and subject files dating from 1907. There are also series of membership records, finance material, a large series of Parliamentary Acts and Bills and a series of court cases.

Guild of Memorial Craftsmen records including minutes and AGMs dating from 1949, a register of members, a short series of accounts and balance sheets and a nice series of photographs showing the work of members.

Audio-Visual/Photographs LMA/4232/E: this series contains not only a large series of photographs illustrating LUYC events but films produced by members of LUYC and cassette recordings. These date from the 1960's to the 1990's.

Records of the Unione Ticinese mutual aid society, consisting of Committee minutes 1925-1992; the minutes of the Ladies section from 1939-1955; Joint Entertainment Committee minutes 1951-1952; Advisory group and Cultural Sub-committee minutes 1984-1986; records of membership, including the first membership record 1874; accounts 1926-1966; circulars 1934-1998; correspondence of the president Peter de Maria 1951-1953; publications including 125 years of the Unione Ticinese and Continental Taste: Ticines emigrants and their Cafe-Restaurants in Britain 1847-1987; and photographs dating from 1903.

Records of Greater Access to Publishing, including minutes of meetings, funding applications, conference planning notes, and packs. Also press cutting from The Bookseller about the organisation and letterhead.

Records of the African Caribbean and Minorities 2000 Cooperative. This material consists of a draft letter introducing the idea for a cooperative and a list of invited persons.

The collection contains the administrative papers of the Barbican Arts Group Trust including policy documents; minutes of meetings; financial records; property records; and artists' details. In addition, the collection includes a range of visual material showing artists and their work as well as printed publicity material for exhibitions. The Trust's outreach work is represented through a number of school packs and booklets.

Records of the Chinese National Healthy Living Centre, including promotional leaflets; recordings made under the oral history project 'Whispers of Time: Memories of Migration and Settlement'; and promotional material from the 'Footprints of the Dragon' project.

Records of the Mary Ward Centre, formerly known as the Mary Ward Settlement and the Passmore Edwards Settlement. Also some records of predecessor institutions University Hall Settlement and Marchmont Hall; and associated organisations such as the Holborn Community Centre and the Association of Principals of Literary Institutes and Colleges.

The records include papers relating to the foundation of the Settlement, particularly correspondence of Mary Ward with supporters and benefactors; minutes of the Council, the Finance and General Purposes Committee and other Committees; administrative and financial files relating to the daily running of the Settlement and the maintenance of Settlement property; papers of the Chairman and Wardens which relate to the management of the Settlement and reflect the interests of individual wardens, particularly relating to adult education provision in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s; papers relating to various appeals to raise funds to prevent the closure of the Settlement; and papers relating to grant applications.

Also papers relating to the activities of the Settlement including prospectuses and syllabi outlining adult education courses; papers of youth clubs, vacation schools, evening play centres, clubs for the elderly and clubs for women; papers relating to the School for Invalid Children; papers relating to the provision of financial and legal advice; papers regarding the introduction of computing services in the early 1990s; press cuttings and photographs.
