The trial of the de-naturalisation of Feodor Fedorenko (aka Feoder Dimitrievich Fedorendo aka Feoder Fedorenko aka Vladimir Serduik), former Ukranian prison guard at Treblinka, initially took place at Waterbury, Connecticut, USA. It was adjourned, to be reconvened in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The case was brought on the accusation that Fedorenko had illegally obtained naturalisation as a US citizen because he had lied at the time of entry into the US, by withholding the fact he was a guard at the death camp, Treblinka. However, the judge in this case, refused to believe the testimony of the witnesses for the prosecution, claiming that they had conspired and that their testimony was coached. The case was later successfully appealed, and Fedorenko became the first Nazi war criminal to be deported to the Soviet Union. In a court in Southern Ukraine, June 1986, he was found guilty in of treason; voluntarily going over to the side of the Fascist aggressors; taking part in punitive actions against the peaceful population; and mass executions of citizens of many countries. He was sentenced to death in Kiev in 1986.

The copy correspondence and papers in this collection document the systematic theft of Jewish property following the ransacking of Jewish lodges, libraries and archives; the subsequent confiscation of all art works in Jewish hands throughout Europe and their dispatch to Germany in special trains; and the plunder of the homes of Jews deported to the East collectively known in Germany as 'Möbelaktion'.

Chiefly comprising birth and death certificates, permits and travel documents. Including Martha Cohen's identity card with the conspicuous letter 'J' on the cover denoting Jew and which bears the additional information that she was 'evacuated' from Berlin on 16 Dec 1942; order from the Amtsgericht, Berlin, that Martha Cohen must adopt the forename 'Sara' to identify her as a Jew, 11 Jan 1939; order stamped by the Gestapo that Martha Cohen must leave Germany, 1 Oct 1942 and an inventory of the possessions of Sally Baer, prior to his transportation to Theresienstadt.

Mrs Ben Courts personal papers, 1938-1946, comprise correspondence mostly from friends and family members in Germany to Mrs Ben Courts 1938-1946, (629/1), much of this material is immediately pre war and relates to requests by unidentifiable individuals for sponsorship to settle in England; Central Office for Refugees Domestic Bureau printed material including terms and conditions and registration information, 1939 (629/2) and biographical notes on Mrs Ben Courts by her son Hugh Courts, [1938-1946] (629/3).

Responses to a questionnaire by Paul Plaut, designed as research for Die Psychologie der produktiven Persönlichkeit, from prominent scientists and artists in Germany and Austria on their views about science and creativity. There are some interesting responses from outside the German speaking countries (Miguel de Unamuno, John Galsworthy), but the bulk of the contributions represent the views of German-speaking academics and artists. Responses to the scientific questionnaire include Albert Einstein, Fritz Haber and Erwin Finlay Freundlich as well as lay figures such as Gustav Radbrüch and Wilhelm Hellpach. Communications from writers range from letters by Heinrich and Franziska Mann to a postcard from Elsa Laska-Schüler. Architects write about their work and new ideas (Erich Mendelsohn) and some of the painters give insights into their creative development, notably Wassily Kandinsky, Otto Dix and Max Pechstein.

Storage record book of Thomas Cook's Lisbon depot, Portugal 1942-1943. This volume is thought to be significant because it contains the names of many Jews who left possessions during the years 1942-1943, much of which remained unclaimed, and was presumably disposed of by Thomas Cook staff in due course.

Papers relating to Jewish refugees in Portugal, 1930s, comprise reports documenting the situation of German Jewish refugees in Portugal in the 1930s, including reports from the Portuguese Committee for the Aid of Jewish Refugees and a biographical outline of the life and work of Augusto d'Esaguy.

The Brand family correspondence collection (693/1-29), 1939-1947, originates from Max Brand's family in Vienna, mostly from Olga, his sister, but also from his father and mother; the latter is usually written in Sütterlin script.It deals almost exclusively with details of family life. There is very little which sheds light on general conditions as they obtained for Jews in Vienna during this period.

The papers of Siegfried Weiner, early 20th century, comprise a biographical account, written by his daughter; she describes life in Regensburg, Bavaria, the family's the difficulties following their emigration to Palestine, the war of independence and then their return to Regensburg.

Papers concerning Judaism and communism in Russia, 1936-1937, relate to the Jewish Central Information Office's work to refute the Nazis' commonly held assertion that Jews played a significant role in the leadership of the Soviet Union. The collection notably includes a request from Alfred Wiener for a list of names of Jews supposed to be working in high positions in Russia; correspondence from Jewish Central Information Office, Amsterdam, enclosing list of government officials in Soviet Union, concerning racial origin; pamphlet entitled Materialien zu 'Judentum und Bolschewismus' and a report entitled 'The Jews in leading positions in the Soviet Republic', refuting the Nazi assertion that Jews dominated positions of power in Russia.

Family papers of Hilde Sanderson, 1926-1980, comprising papers relating to restitution claims for relatives of the sisters Rosa and Hedwig Seelig including correspondence between family members, witnesses and lawyers; affidavits of witnesses; inventories of possessions stolen and records of the court's decision, 1926-1980 and family correspondence, 1939-1962, mostly addressed to Hilde Sanderson (née Tachauer) including letters from her aunts Rosa and Hedwig Seelig, Frankfurt 1939.
