King's College London Secondary School Meals Research Project, 2003-2004, comprises original research data used within the School Meals in Secondary Schools in England report, 2004. The collection contains data entry forms used to collate research gathered in a sample of secondary schools in England.

The collection is divided into three sections, tray checks, 2003-2004; specifications, inventories and portion booklets, 2003-2004 and consent forms, recipes, pilot inventories and tray checks, 2003-2004.

The first section, tray check forms (3 boxes), is arranged in files by ID numbers assigned to participating schools, each pupil has an ID number and each form is labelled by this number; these forms list options of possible foods with the chosen option selected, indicating the diet of the child.

The second section contains research data for each school (3 boxes), including school meals portion weights and visibility booklets, 2003-2004; food inventory booklets, 2003-2004; semi-structured telephone interviews with bursar/head/LEA forms, 2003-2004; specification analysis tools, 2003-2004 and catering nutrition and healthy eating policies, 2003-2004.

The third section (1 box), contains consent forms, 2003-2004; recipes listing ingredients and methodology, 2003-2004; pilot inventories, 2003-2004 and tray checks, all arranged by individual school, 2003-2004.

Records comprise printed general BSc question papers, 1960-1970; BPharm, BSc, MSc, MEd and DCC examination question papers for specific subjects including Pharmacognosy, 1933-1970, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutics, Mathematics and Microbiology, 1960- 1986.

Chelsea College student files, [1923-1971] (reels 1-33). Information contained typically includes name, date of birth, nationality, secondary education, department, main subject, qualification sought, session, full or part time, subjects, tutor, results, scholarships, permanent address and degree awarded. Some records also give other educational institutions attended, GCE and `A' Level results, subjects and marks. This series also includes examination question papers, 1967-1974, 1976-1977 (reels 34-36, 39), BSc degree classifications, 1968-1972 (reel 37), BSc degree pass lists and mark sheets, 1972-1973 (reel 38). The BSc pass list gives name, field of study, course codes and some marks. The BSc mark sheet contains name, course, examiner's name, session, result, value including pass mark and course work percentages, and final degree classification.

The papers of Herbert Tomlinson, [1895-1904], comprise a printed volume of lectures delivered to the Royal Society by Tomlinson between 1881 and 1889, mainly concerning the effects of strain in materials and on viscosity.

Papers of John M Wrigglesworth, 1963-1985, comprise records reflecting his role at Chelsea College, as Chair of the Association of University Teachers (AUT) and reflect his commitment to the College and biochemistry. The collection notably includes material regarding the threat of College closure (it eventually merged with King's College in 1985), including a copy of the petition by members of Chelsea College acting through the AUT, regarding six resolutions affecting the future structure and activities of the College, [1982]; the answer of the College to the petition of some of its members concerning the discontinuance of certain academic departments, [1982]; typewritten results of a College assembly regarding the proposed closure of the Liberal Education Department, 1982; correspondence between Laurie Sapper of the AUT and Norman M Waldron of the Chemistry Department of Chelsea College, regarding a petition concerning redundancy.

The collection also includes minutes of the Senate, October 1981-February 1982; Chelsea College of Science and Technology, 1963, a history of the College and its departments and a typewritten list of research degrees awarded in Biochemistry at Chelsea College, arranged by year of award. Also including two black and white photographs of groups of people, one inscribed 'Some aspects of modern biochemistry!!', the reverse of the photograph reads 'Swinburne, Stevens, Prenton, Howalt and David Peg', the second 'Stevenson, Martin, Jean, Spencer, Mrs Beard, Miss Young from Lyn Fitschen'.

The Clerical, Secretarial, Manual and Technical staff files include porters, catering and kitchen staff, laboratory and research technicians, cleaners, service engineers, clerks, hall managers, secretaries, library staff, carpenters, administrative assistants, computer programmers and operators, research students and assistants.

South-Western Polytechnic and Chelsea Polytechnic fees book registers for day classes, 1895-[1928], fees book registers for evening classes, 1897-1915 (Ref: CA/SFB), statistics books, 1907-1938 (Ref: CA/STATS), miscellaneous register, 1897-[1913] (Ref: CA/REG). Information contained in fees books typically includes name, age, occupation, classes, time per week and fees. Statistics books contain information on terms kept, student hours per registration, per subject and class entries per term. The miscellaneous register contains lists of certificates awarded to students, the wording on them and distribution details.
