These papers are largely concerned with Humphreys' involvement in the development and promotion of Latin American Studies in Britain. The collection is roughly divided into three series. The 'correspondence' section includes letters from a variety of people, including British historians such as Hugh Hale Bellot and historians of Latin America and the USA (1934 to 1982). Amongst the papers of committees and conferences promoting Latin American Studies in Great Britain in the second section are: papers of the University College London Advisory Committee and the University Grants Committee on Latin American Studies; correspondence relating to committees; interview papers and reports. The third section contains items created by Professor Humphreys including unpublished papers, and printed newspaper articles.

Tot Haarlem, Bij Gillis Rooman, woonende in de Jacobine-strate, in de vergulden Parsse, Anno 1590. The transcription of the book by Broersz occupies the first 33 leaves, and is signed F.[?] J. Riett, 1612. Ff. 35-88 contain further arithmetical problems, including some in verse form illustrated by pen-and-ink drawings.

Manuscript volume containing a copy of an indenture ratifying and confirming the appointment of Thomas Neale to the office of Master and Worker of the Mint, 23 Jul 1686, with a table of the fees and salaries of the officers of the Royal Mint in the Tower of London. Thomas Neale was appointed Master and Worker of the Mint by King Charles II in 1678, and continued in office under King James II and King William III until about Jan 1699. His name appears on several medals of William III.

Includes the signatures of the 84 original shareholders against the number of shares held by each.

Printed insurance policy, completed in manuscript, no. 649524, issued by the Sun Fire Office to Nathaniel Dimsdale, Bt, for Rocksly Farm, Willian, Hertfordshire. Dated 25 Dec 1795.

The collection, c1930, contains records and minutes of the International Commission of Enquiry to Liberia. It also contains correspondence and verbatim records of testimonies given by witnesses.

1. An inventory of his goods and chattels taken at his lodgings in Queen Square, Bristol, 10 Oct 1786, including details of clothes, household goods, plate, and books and pamphlets, with a total value of £170 11s.
2. An account of monies received and paid out by Thomas Rutter, executor of John Appleton, 1786-1790.
3. Letter from Thomas Rutter to Patrick Buck explaining that, owing to bad debts, the effects left by Appleton are not sufficient to pay the legacies left by him, 1789.
4. Receipt, 1791, signed by William and Hannah Reynolds for legacies left them by Appleton.

Manuscript volume containing an 18th century transcript of an inventory of the estate of Thomas West, 8th Baron West and 9th Baron De La Warr, including his properties at Offington in Sussex, Ewhurst, and London, all valued at £1,800. The inventory takers were James Gage, John Shelley, Richard Lyne, and George Stoughton.

'An inventory of all the household furniture and other effects of Mr. Robert Gibbs, deceased, that was on the premises of no.7 Theobald's Row', London, 23 Nov 1808'. The goods are listed under the names of persons (Edward Gibbs, Thomas Gibbs, Louisa Gibbs, Mr. Dalton, and Mrs. Smith), and under rooms, e.g. kitchen, parlour, shop, granary. The endorsement gives the total value as £230 4s.6d, valued by Mr. Davis. A few items are individually valued.

Copy of an inventory of the possessions of 'Farmer Cotton' of Longparish, Hampshire, taken by H.B.Coles. The fixtures in the pantry, bakehouse, kitchen, yard, rick yard, granary and 'yard etc.' are listed, and valued at £16 17s.6d. Individual items are not valued. The inventory is addressed to H.B.Coles, Middleton House, Longparish, and franked Andover 12 Jul, and Whitchurch, 13 Jul 1842.

A collection of 240 invoices, printed forms completed in manuscript, often with engraved headings and scenes, dated between 1833 and 1879, addressed to 107 companies and individuals in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and to 2 in New York, from one German and 89 British manufacturers. Goods invoiced consist mainly of textile and textile machinery, pottery, cutlery and tools. Most invoices after Sep 1835 bear the stamp of the Custom House, Philadelphia, and after Feb 1869 many have attached a consular certificate combined with a sworn declaration by the manufacturer as to the origin, destination and price of the goods.

Letter from William Ward Jackson of Normanby, [North Riding of Yorkshire] to George Brigham, near Hutton, Rudby, [North Riding of Yorkshire], 20 Mar 1822. Describing how a servant of Jackson's had been killed 'by an accident from a horse' that day and an early inquest is desired. Asks Brigham to tell the bearer of the letter what time he will arrive.

Manuscript volume containing a Jacobite tract, [1715] attacking the partisans of Holland and the Dutch alliance, urging the peers of England to follow the example of the Scots and rise up in support of James Edward Francis Stuart (the Pretender) to the throne of England, and protesting against his expulsion from the country.

The collection contains a typescript diary of his life and work, particularly of his time spent in the New Hebrides (Vanuatu) from 1907. Also includes letters and photographs.

Letter from Charles Jenkinson (1st Earl of Liverpool) of Addiscombe Place to James Maitland, Earl of Lauderdale, 24 Aug 1793. Returning to him a copy of Turgot's Réflexions sur la Formation et la Distribution des Richesses (1788). 'It contains all that Mr Adam Smith has written on the influence of capital and on the commerce of a nation; but M. Turgot develops his principles in a more neat and clear manner by far, than Adam Smith, who appea[rs] to have borrowed greatly from him'.

Accompanying a copy of his work on the decimal system: '... it is the first book which embraces the whole System of Money and Measures that has yet appeared ... You will perceive that this system is very superior to that in France [i.e. to the metric system]'.

Thanking him for his congratulations on Johnson's appointment; accepting an invitation for the following day, when he will explain the nature of his duties. He had been unable to gain tidings of the recipient when enquiring only a week ago. Sending kind regards to Mrs Trevelyan.

Letter from Charles Jones of 16 Whittall Street, Birmingham to Thomas Attwood, 12 Apr 1841. Covering letter to a copy of Jones's pamphlet Letter to Charles Wood, Esq. M.P. '... lately written on the currency'. He warns Attwood: 'I fear you will not find Birmingham either more happy or more prosperous than when you left it although it continues to increase in the external signs of both'.

Covering letter (written on behalf of the Property Tax Association) to a printed copy of Joshua Scholefield's speech, (made in the House of Commons on 23 Mar 1841) proposing that a property tax be substituted for the existing customs and excise taxes. Jones forecasts that the proposed property tax 'is likely to become a populat topic at the [forthcoming] elections' and expresses the hope that Fox would be elected MP for Tower Hamlets.
