Records of the London Trades Council. Both the minutes 1915-1943 (Acc/3287/01/001-029), and the annual reports 1922-1952 (Acc/3287/01/029-053) cover not only the routine administration of the Council, but also mention individual company disputes, and larger trade and social issues. Material dealing with the early years of the Council can be found on a set of microfilms within the collection (Acc/3287/01/66-76). The archive contains pamphlets and publications on various issues, produced not only by the Council but by other associated orgainisations (Acc/3287/02).

Records of the Metropolitan Water Board, comprising a certificate of long service issued to Thomas Scarth, employed as collector by Chelsea Water Works Company from 1896 and retired from Metropolitan Water Board in 1937.

Records of Blake's (Confectionary) Limited, 1926-1927, consisting of a Memorandum and Articles of Association and papers regarding premises at 22 Queen Victoria Street. There is also material concerning the appointment of Percy Driver as General Manager, and the dealings between Blake's and James Pascall Limited, a confectionary manufacturing company.

Records of Leslie R Wolfson's dental practice, 1934-1987, consisting largely of accounts such as balance sheets, cash books, bills, receipts and tax papers relating to Mr Wolfson's dental practices in Enfield; sample of patients' record cards (patients unidentifiable); booklets, pamphlets, and so on regarding aspects of dentistry, National Health Service leaflets and other leaflets on dental charges; and correspondence concerning property transactions in Enfield including agreement for sale of general practice at Grange Park, Enfield.

Records of HM Prison, Wandsworth. The records relate to prison administration, the prisoners, and, to a much a lesser extent, the prison staff. The earliest records are a minute and letter book, 1847-1850, and a letter book, 1848-1852, of the Committee for building a new prison in Surrey (ACC/3444/AD/01/001-002).

With regard to records relating to prisoners, the main series is the nominal registers (ACC/3444/PR/01), giving details of the name, age, trade, education, and religion of the prisoner, the date of committal, details of the offence and sentence and the date of discharge. These are in chronological order and run from 1879 to 1956, with several volumes produced each year. Unfortunately, there are only a few indexes to these registers. Those that survive run from 1940 to 1956 only (ACC/3444/PR/02).

The other important series giving details about individual prisoners are the registers of executions, 1892-1961 (ACC/3444/PR/03), and files on condemned prisoners, 1933-1954 (ACC/3444/PR/04).

Also of interest is a series of glass plates of prison officers and prisoners from 1920 to the 1930s.

PLEASE NOTE: In accordance with Home Office regulations, the entire collection is subject to a 30 year closure period, with the exception of some particularly sensitive series, which are subject to longer closure periods. These are all marked on the catalogue.

Records of Highbury Hill High School, Shelburne High School and Highbury Fields School, 1903-1992, including papers relating to the amalgamation of Highbury Hill High School and Shelburne High School to form Highbury Fields School, including the campaign against amalgamation; administrative records including Highbury Hill admission registers, Highbury Fields admission register, and log books for Shelburne School. Also general administrative papers; financial accounts; correspondence; papers relating to the curriculum; papers of Governing Bodies and Committees; publications; papers relating to Shelburne Youth Centre; and staff registers.

Records of the The Empire Stone Works, consisting of rolled plans, 1950-1990, from the Drawing Office at Narborough. Among the buildings with which the company was involved are: Battersea Park Pagoda, British Museum, Ford Factory Dagenham, Bank of England, Haberdasher's Hall, Westminster Abbey, Royal Ballet School, Royal Free Hospital and Kingston Power Station.

Records of the National Council of Women of Great Britain, formerly the National Union of Women Workers. The records cover a wide variety of material. Minutes from many of the committees created by the NCW including the Executive Committee minutes from 1904, and Annual Reports from 1947 to 1993 can be found along with material relating to property and premises belonging to the NCW. There is a large series of information files which cover topics from Slavery and Prostitution to Animal Welfare and fireworks, as well as a series of publications by the NCW. The largest series is that of the Branch and Regional records which consist of minutes, accounts, reports and papers from many of the branches and regions.

Records of the Scottish Reel Club, comprising minutes, financial records, membership records and programmes.

The records consist of the three surviving minute books of the Hampstead Provident Dispensary together with a minute book of the United Provident Institution which is only partly used, entries becoming increasingly brief in the late 1860s before ceasing altogether.

Records of R S Murray and Company Limited, sweet manufacturers, including recipe books, reports and related correspondence. The recipe books include details of product development, specifying appropriate ingredients and methods. Other papers concern H.J. Norton, who was Managing Director of R.S. Murray and Co. Ltd from 1914-1940s.

Records of Catesbys Limited, department store, 1908-1958. The records consist of registers of members and directors, annual returns and minutes. There are also private ledgers, many indexed; progress and stock books, as well as wage returns. There is a salaries book for Catesbys Contract and Export Ltd.

Records of Cowell, Drewett and Wheatley, architects, 1889-1912. The records are plans and drawings of alterations and additions to the following churches: Holy Trinity, Chelsea; Saint Augustine's, Kilburn; and Saint Peter, Ealing.

Records of Westminster Bridge Commissioners, comprising volume of draft contracts and papers relating to the Bridge, including 'Act for building a Bridge cross the River Thames, from the New Palace Yard in the City of Westminster, to the opposite Shore, in the County of Surry' and articles of agreement and contracts for various aspects of building the bridge and provision of materials.

The volume is a later re-binding, possibly of the 19th century. The contracts had been paginated, and so, presumably, bound together at an earlier date. The pagination runs from 153 to 261, the right hand (odd) pages only being numbered; the surviving items thus appear to be part only of an earlier compilation. From the note made and signed by Taylor White on p.207, and the endorsements on pp [194] and [208], it appears likely that the papers were among the working papers of the Commissioners themselves.

Records of Michael Gibbon, innkeeper of Holborn, comprising three account books showing that as well as managing the inn and busy livery stable - sending horses to grass on 'the Marshes' - Gibbons undertook varied purchases and commissions for his customers, many of whom were from Gray's Inn across the road, and also from other Inns of Court. One of his customers Denzil Suckling, a member of the Middle Temple, appears to have acted as trustee for a young girl, Sophia Bright; Gibbons' accounts include payment for her schooling, clothing and medical care.

Records of the Chartered Gas Light and Coke Company, 1812-1949, including Director's meeting minutes; Proprietors' Meeting minutes; Committee of Accounts, Finance and Audit minutes; Committee of Works minutes; Committee of Works and Products minutes; Committee of Chemistry and Machinery minutes; Committee of Light and Experiments minutes; Committee on Machinery and Works minutes; Committee on the Provision for Wear and Tear minutes; financial accounts; map of London Gas Companies' Districts; evidence presented to various Committees including Select Committees; proceedings in Parliament relating to the gas companies; and Gas Light and Coke Company's Acts, Charter and Bye-Laws.

Records of Harrisons Nursery Garden in Kensington, 1755-1839. The most interesting are the records of the nursery and seed business begun by Henry Hewitt in 1775 or earlier and carried on by his nephews John and Samuel Harrison. These include account books and stock books which list a wide variety of seeds of vegetables and flowers, bulbs bought from Holland, and seedlings of various ornamental trees, shrubs and fruit trees. Some were grown at the nursery but the majority were grown by country farmers on contract. The business was run with some success and had regular clients in all parts of England including many titled families. It was the practice for one of the partners to travel round the country to collect payment for outstanding accounts and probably orders (for the expenses for these trips include many gratuities to gardeners). In spite of this and an apparent high turnover, however, clients were bad at paying bills and the business was sometimes in difficulties. New partners brought fresh capital from time to time. The last partner was William Bristowe who joined in 1819 with, a fourth share, the firm then being described as Harrison and Bristowe. In 1833, however, Samuel Harrison was described as a bankrupt.

Also included are the records of Lane and Prideaux, solicitors, 1775-1839, concerning the settlement of the estate of Samuel Harrison, a bankrupt, and the estate of his uncle Henry Hewitt, d.1790 and other relatives and friends for whom the Harrison family acted as executors, and the payment of annuities under Henry Hewitt's will.

Records of the Imperial Gas Light and Coke Company, 1821-1878, including Directors' meeting minutes and orders; Shareholders' meeting signed minutes; Committee for General Purposes signed minutes; Committee for Works signed minutes; Committee for Accounts signed minutes; appointments and emoluments of Officers; Committee for Works rough minutes; summary of half-yearly accounts of Metropolitan Gas Companies including The Imperial, Gas Light and Coke Company, Commercial, Independent, Ratcliff, London, Phoenix, South Metropolitan and Surrey Consumers and bound volume of Acts relating to the Company, Gas, Public Companies and so on.

Records of the City of London Gas Light and Coke Company, 1705-1881, comprising deeds of title and co-partnerships and letters, relating to premises in Water Lane, Pigs Quay Wharf and other premises between Tudor Street and Water Street; and deeds relating to premises between Whitefriars Dock, Victoria Embankment and Tudor Street, near to Dorset Street.

General records relating to the supply of gas, 1825-1948, collected by the North Thames Gas Board and predecessor companies. Includes draft Parliamentary reports leading up to the Act for better regulating the supply of gas to the metropolis, 1860; minutes of weekly meetings of a Committee of Chairmen of the Metropolitan Gas Companies in connection with the Parliamentary Committee inquiring into the Metropolis Gas Act, 1860; Bill and relevant papers concerning the proposed amalgamation of all or some of the metropolitan gas companies; drafts, petitions and briefs concerning the London Corporation Gas Bill; report from the Board of Trade on the current Railway, Tramway, Gas and Water Bills, 1870; Gas and Water Facilities Bill, 1870; press cuttings; statistical information about gas companies, 1865.
