The Death of Yugoslavia archive, 1941,1985-1996, consists of interview transcripts, videotapes, transmission scripts, files, press cuttings and published material concerning the disintegration of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) during 1987-1994. It includes VHS videos of episodes 1-5 of the documentary Death of Yugoslavia, and transcripts of eighty-seven interviews, mostly uncut (though questions are sometimes omitted), with eyewitnesses the Republics of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (containing only the Republics of Serbia and Montenegro), who describe their experiences of the rise of nationalism, constitutional developments, civil war and ethnic conflict, and members of the international community, involved in the search for a solution.

Papers of Sir Peter William Gretton. A small proportion of the documents relate to Gretton's naval career (1926-1963) and include reports, standing orders, workbooks and journals. The majority of the archive, however, relates to Gretton's life after active service, including: his correspondence with naval personal, fellow academics and political figures; projects and research on a variety of naval defence topics, including the 1966 Defence White Paper, and work for the Ditchley Foundation and the Institute of Strategic Studies; typescripts and preparatory material for speeches, lectures, book reviews and contributions to radio and television programmes presented by Gretton; and research and copies of articles for newspapers and leading publications, including the Naval Review and the Dictionary of National Biography. All of Gretton's published books (see above Biography) and unpublished works are extensively represented by correspondence, notes, research materials and full drafts, in the case of 'The Forgotten Factor' (on the Spanish Civil War), 'The Battle of the Atlantic', 'The True Glory' (on minor naval actions in World War Two) and 'The Victorian Navy'. The collection also includes a small number of personal papers, including an outline of Gretton's working life, October 1942-July 1969, written by his wife, and a bound volume of memoirs, written by Gretton himself.

PhD thesis submitted by Margaret Tatiana Rose to Hull University, 1988, entitled "Philips Price and the Russian Revolution". Morgan Philips Price (1885-?) was correspondent for "The Manchester Guardian" in Russia from 1914 to 1918. He was a founder member of the Union of Democratic Control which opposed Britain's entry into the First World War. His reports from Russia became increasingly radical and supportive of the Bolsheviks and were eventually censored.

Papers, 1859-1897, of James and Hannah Legge, consisting primarily of letters written by James and Hannah Legge to their family, written between October 1859 and June 1897. These include those written by Hannah Legge from Hong Kong, 1859-1865, and those written by James Legge to his step-daughter Marian, 1866-1897 (lacking 1881-1889). Hannah Legge's letters give a vivid description of life in Hong Kong. She describes the Taiping Rebels, attitudes towards missionaries, and political and social events, in addition to giving graphic accounts of her trips to Chinese towns and provinces. His letters describe his life during his final residence in Hong Kong and upon his return to England as a University Professor. Also included in the collection are photocopied book extracts detailing missionary work in China and a pamphlet about Wang T'Ao, a scholar who helped Dr Legge in the translation of Chinese literature.
