Some correspondence, papers, notebooks and publications of Sir James Hopwood Jeans. Early manuscripts in the series relate to Jean's education at Trinity College, Cambridge, in the form of early lecture notebooks, largely on mathematical topics. A collection of letters, 1901-1907, documents his treatment for tuberculosis at Ringwood Sanatorium, where he completed work on the theory of gases; correspondents included G H Hardy and Adam Sedgewick among others. Jean's engagements in popularizing science are represented by proofs and typescript of lectures and essays, especially those written for the BBC, 1934-1935, together with associated letters and press cuttings. The series contains collections of offprints, reprints, and extracts of published works by Jeans and others, notably from the Philosophical Transactions and the Philosophical Magazine.

Papers, 1948-1952, relating to the career of Geraldine Jebb, notably Statutes of the Order of the British Empire, presented in 1948, three books containing the signatures of Governors and Members of the Council, staff, and students who subscribed to the presentation made to Jebb on her retirement, 1951, and a certificate recording Jebb's induction as a Fellow of Bedford College. Papers of the Parkes family, 1634-1865. The main part of the collection consists of letters to Joseph Parkes. In addition, there are a few letters to his elder brother Josiah, to their father John, and to other members of the family. There are also a few miscellaneous papers. The Parkes family deeds are also part of the collection, consisting of family deeds, subsidiary title deeds, grants of mineral rights, deeds held as Trustees, and miscellaneous. The deeds are dated 1634-1800 and the correspondence is dated 1801-1865.

Records of Annie Horatia Jones, daughter of Sir Horace Jones. The collection contains ten dolls' house dolls dressed by Tamazine Billings (nee Jones) in 1886 for her niece, Annie Horatia Jones, to represent members of Sir Horace Jones' family and household. The dolls' original labels have been sewn onto their clothing to identify the family member they are intended to represent. There is also a photograph album depicting family including Sir Horace Jones, portrait of Annie Horatia Jones in outfit for City of London Mansion House Juvenile Dress Ball, and family at home in Devonshire Place; her correspondence with aunts, housekeeper and friends concerning holidays, her pursuits and interests (1883-1890), a scrapbook of coloured pictures and also a pencil drawing of Tamazine Billings as a girl (circa 1831). The collection presents an insight into Sir Horace Jones' family life. The different heights of the dolls of Sir Horace Jones and Lady Ann Elizabeth Jones and the size of dolls is thought to represent other family members demonstrates Victorian attitudes towards personal status within the family. The clothing on the dolls is also useful for looking at costume and dress during the late nineteenth century.
