This is as the fragments are bound, but of course II verso follows directly on I verso, so they are consecutive leaves with a continuous chunk of text apart from the cropping to I. The text is heavily abbreviated and the margins substantial, evidently designed for glosses. The text seems to be considerably different from that given in Migne.

Letters to Ethne Thompson from John Masefield, 1925-1929.

Six volumes of account books, 1734-95, relating to the running of the Headfort Estate, Co. Meath, Ireland. Also one volume of apprentice bindings in the town of Kells, Co. Meath under the terms of the Headfort family charity.

Manuscript volume containing an account of the public debts at the Exchequer, exclusive of the deficiencies of parliamentary grants, 14 Mar 1716, prepared for [Spencer Compton, Viscount Pevensey] Speaker of the House of Commons, from material in various Finance Acts.

Manuscript volume, 1795, entitled 'The European negotiator or Exchange operations elucidated. Containing the denominations and values of the monies of accompt. - The course of exchange, the usances and days of grace of all the commercial cities in Europe and the reciprocal reduction of their monies into those of every place with which they have established exchanges...Also arbitration of exchange...Tables of foreign monies, weights and measures equated and compared with those of England. A table of duties on goods passing the sound...'. There is a note adding additional information, 1799, on f.53r.

The vast majority of these papers relate to Whiteley's life between 1923 and 1938. They cover the years when she lived in England and are also a useful source for information concerning her travels in India, although there is practically nothing relating to her visit to Rome and the period of her residence in Austria.

There is an extensive series of letters written to Whiteley whilst she was living in England. These letters (MS 949/1B) indicate the friendships and contacts that she made in England and maintained overseas. They also give information about her work and activities during this period of her life. The ephemera and other material collected by Whiteley provides supporting information about her concerns and interests during this period (MS 949/5-7). There is a large amount of photographic material in this collection, the bulk of which was created during Whiteley's travels in India during 1924 and 1925 (MS 949/8-9). As well as being a source of information about Whiteley herself and the places which she visited, the images also give information about the region of Udaipur, its people, architecture and social customs. The photographic material is supported by letters to Whiteley and papers and letters written by her whilst in India (MS 949/3).

There is also a significant amount of material written by Whiteley for her own use (MS 949/4). It is rather difficult to make sense of much of this material, although some of it clearly relates to her interests and research. However, these papers clearly give an indication of Whiteley's state of mind at this period.

A Mirrour of Virtues and vices in 2 decads by way of description and Characters manuscript by Thomas Bilson, successively Bishop of Worcester and of Winchester. In a prefatory note to his sister, Bilson characterizes the work as "the extract of the superfluous humour of youth's distemperature, which I hope maturity of judgment, and ripenesse of further experience will either purify or utterly extinguish." Perhaps written while he was at Oxford.

In Arithmetica diversche questyen met hare solutien: door C.J. Broersz, liefhebber der Reeckenconst ... Tot Haarlem, Bij Gillis Rooman, woonende in de Jacobine-strate, in de vergulden Parsse, Anno 1590. The transcription of the book by Broersz occupies the first 33 leaves, and is signed F.[?] J. Riett, 1612. Ff. 35-88 contain further arithmetical problems, including some in verse form illustrated by pen-and-ink drawings.

Poems by Sir Francis Hubert, Sir Robert Cotton and Ben Jonson: ff 2-147. 'The Deplorable Life and Death of Edward the Second': The first poem [by Sir Francis Hubert] comprises 581 seven line stanzas. Printed in 1628 and 1629. MS. Harleian 2393 in the British Museum has two versions of the poem, the first "imperfect at the end, as wanting all after the 352 stanza ... It is written to Queen Elizabeth"; the second, like the present MS., "revised and corrected ... being now fitted-up for the perusal of King James I ... and, in the whole, consists of 581 stanzas ... the author, at the end, calls himself Infortunio."; ff 150-164: 'A short view of the Raigne of King Henry the third': The second poem is by Sir Robert Cotton and was printed in 1627. ff 276b-278: 'The bodie'. Daniell, poet; 'The minde', the third poem ['Daniell, poet'] is, in fact, by Ben Jonson. It has 8 four line stanzas. 'The minde', the last poem, has 18 four line stanzas.
