Sidney George West slide collection, [1934-1937] comprises glass lantern slides depicting images of Portugal. Each slide has been numbered and labelled. They include scenes of Lisbon, Estoril, Cintra, Mafra, Evora, Santarem, Thomar, Coimbra, Luso-Bussaco, Vizeu, Oporto, Braga, Bom Jesus, Viana Do Castelo, Aveiro, Leiria, Batalha and Alcobaça and images of rivers, valleys, religious buildings and traditional scenes including a festival and bullfight. An inventory prepared by West, dated 13 September 1934 - 6 December 1937, is enclosed and gives details of each slide.

Accounts records of Whitbread and Company Limited, brewers, including Company accounts books (1815-1959) together with the annual copies of accounts and balance sheets issued to the director from 1890 through to 1952, statement of expenditure books from Britannia Street (1913-1922), cash books (1770-1959), deposit and depreciation ledgers (1916-1949 and 1938-1951 respectively), loan diaries and applications (1885-1919), securities ledgers and shares registers along with an unbroken series of rest books from 1799 through to 1918 with an additional series of rest books from 1941 to 1956.

Also included are accounts, cash and rent books from some of public houses owned by Whitbread and Company plus a variety of ledgers and journals regarding corporate finances both general and private.

Records of Whitbread and Company Limited, brewers, relating to advertising, memorabilia and personal records, including substantial albums and guard books with Whitbread and Company advertising and labelling from 1935 through to 1980, newscuttings book of adverts commissioned (1921-1996), photographs of premises (1930-1979) and correspondence relating to advertising campaigns. Also included are published histories of the Company from both the nineteenth and twentieth century. This collection also includes the Whitbread Archivist's research files on public houses in the London area, subsidary companies and individuals associated with Whitbread and Company.

Corporate records of Whitbread and Company Limited, brewers, including minutes of various corporate meetings (1889-1977), articles of association, partnership documents covering all major partnership agreements including the original agreement between Mr. Whitbread and Mr. Sewell dated 1761, documents relating to the establishment of the limited company including reports and property valuations, papers regarding Company shares, trusts, agreements and patents, contract books, directors' fees journals, registers of seals (1890-1979), royal warrants (1927-1973), policy documents and Company correspondence.

Also included are a substantial collection of managing director Sir Sydney Nevile's papers covering not only all aspects of his work at Whitbread but also his other commitments such as the Institute of Brewing and the Brewing Advisory Committee.

Premises records for Whitbread and Company Limited, brewers, including various title deeds and documentation for property owned by Whitbread and Company, ledgers detailing property, rents, repairs and valuations, papers relating to the North Brewery Project and plans of Company premises organised by region.

Production records for Whitbread and Company Limited, brewers, including papers covering all aspects of the production process such as brewing books for ale (1834-1969) and porter (1804-1976), brewing manuals from the 1960s, Head Brewer's reports, butt books (1925-1937) and fermentation books (1802- 1839). Also included are purchase ledgers and stock books for raw materials (1746-1971), sample and sediment reports (1913-1920) and papers relating to transportation and maintenance of the plants including a horse book (1881-1950) along with documentation on general production statistics.

Furthermore a complete series of notebooks belonging to F.G.S Baker are available running unbroken from 1899 to 1925.

Sales records of Whitbread and Company Limited, brewers, including beer returns (1903-1959), complaints books (1925-1952), excise books (1935-1976), export ledgers (1953-1957), sales and nominal ledgers (1790-1821), estate trade books (1889-1979, these include both public and private trade along with records of the bottling stores), off-licenses and Company interests arranged by region. Also includes summaries, estimates and other sales statistics from across the Company together with papers from the Take Home division.

Staff records of Whitbread and Company Limited, including salary books and ledgers giving information on weekly and monthly salaries over a range of time periods along with details of annuities, pensions and superannuation funds. There are also lists of employees from as early as 1841 (some of which are organised according to occupation), attendance books and information on ex-servicemen employed after the First World War along with sick pay and accident report books, and papers from the 1960s and 1970s detailing company employment policy.

Records consist of farm accounts (1920-1937) and stud book listing the pedigree of mares from Theydon Hall Farm.

Records of Whitbread and Company Ltd, brewers, with the papers of its subsidiary companies originally based in the London area, 1742-2000. These records will primarily be of interest to those concerned with the foundation and development of breweries or with the history of family businesses. A large collection of plans of properties, including public houses (LMA/4453/F/08), along with the Whitbread Archivist's research files (LMA/4453/G/05) will also be of interest to local historians researching specific public houses in the London area. Marriage registers for Wood Green Congregational Church, Lordship Lane, 1912-1940.

Note, account and estimate book of Thomas Wood, carpenter. He worked on the almshouses and school of the Drapers' Company in Mile End left to them by Francis Bancroft in 1728: a substantial portion of the volume contains detailed notes and calculations on the erection and fittings of the buildings to the design of Henry Barratt, architect.

*Official records, with papers of the Uxbridge Poor Law Union, Rural Sanitary Authority and Rural District Council, and of the Uxbridge Petty Sessions (members of the firm being clerks to these bodies) and also of the Harlington Tithe Commissioners, whose clerk was William Mercer, a solicitor with no apparent connection with the Woodbridge firm;

*Charity records, comprising account books, minutes, letter books, deeds and papers of the Lords in Trust of the Manor and borough of Uxbridge, later known as the Uxbridge United Charities;

• Administrative records of the firm including account books, salaries books and partnership agreements; and

• Practice papers, which themselves fall into several groups, namely, deeds of property of which the firm became mortgagee, Woodbridge family deeds and private papers, and clients' papers, by far the largest section. A large number of probates, letters of administration and unproved wills were preserved by the firm as a separate class. The rest of the clients' papers are preserved in separate personal or family groups (covering in many cases two or three generations); since many of the documents are title deeds, these bundles have been arranged according to the parish in which their property lay, although where a family owned property in more than one parish, the whole group has been listed under the parish in which the clients resided. An index of places is provided. Original bundling has been preserved although this has sometimes interfered with the logical arrangment. Where necessary for clarification, family trees have been included; although as accurate as possible these do not claim to be comprehensive.

Records of the Woolwich Board of Guardians, 1861-1932, including minutes of meetings of the Board; correspondence with government departments including the Ministry of Health; orders for settlement, removal or relief; registers of lunatics; Woolwich Institution (workhouse) registers including admission and discharge, creed and deaths; Medical Officers record of examinations of inmates at the Woolwich Institution; registers of children in care including baptisms at the Woolwich Union Chapel, apprenticeship indentures, boarded out children, children at Roman Catholic establishments, children in the Infirmary, children in the workhouse and children held in outlying establishments (ones outside the Union); registers for Plumstead Workhouse, including admission and discharge and creed; admission and discharge registers for the Goldie Leigh Cottage Home for Children; quarterly returns of the British born wives and children of interned aliens [foreigners]; financial accounts and registers of staff.

Papers of Francis Wormald, comprising several scientific notebooks by Honoria Yeo (Wormald's wife) during her time as a pharmacy student, [1930-1939]; photographs, photocopies and postcards, used for teaching or research purposes, of the exterior and interiors of British and European churches, church furnishings, and pages from numerous illuminated manuscripts, Psalters and books of hours, many from the Bodleian Library, Oxford, and British Museum, [1949-1960]; notebooks and loose notes used for lectures including on St Oswald, brasses and Danish invasions of England; papers on topics including French palaeography until the 14th century, English miniatures in the 12th century and Flemish texts in the 13-14th centuries, [1949-1960].

Records of the Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers. The records were compiled from the early 15th century, but they include title deeds from 1290. Records include charters; ordinances; Court minute books; minute books of Master and Wardens meetings; papers relating to bursaries and benefactions; lists of Masters and Wardens; registers of apprentice bindings and freedom admissions; quarterage books; financial accounts; papers relating to charities and almshouses; papers relating to estates owned by the Company; inventories; plans of Armourer's Hall; deeds and other legal documents relating to property owned by the Company.

The archive also includes records of Camden almshouses, 1895 - 1947 (Ms 33960 and Ms 35052A, 2 production units). They include rules and orders, sale particulars, licences and correspondence. Further references may be found in other Company records such as minutes and accounts.

Records of Dame Alice Owen's Charity: The records include minutes, accounts, registers and estate papers. They are part of the archive of the Worshipful Company of Brewers (further information is given in the Company's introductory note). Records of John Baker's almshouses: These records are part of the archive of the Brewers' Company (further information is given in the Company's introductory note). They comprise: memoranda, 1881-9 (Ms 18360-1); deeds and associated documents, 1813-1901 (Ms 18363); specification for the construction of 7 almshouses, 1825 (Ms 18371); quarterly record of payments to almswomen, 1826-1908 (Ms 18372); list of applicants, 1901-2 (Ms 18373); and signed agreements and guarantees, 1826-61 (Ms 18374).
