Sir William Browne's papers relating to his personal and professional life, particularly his role within the Royal College of Physicians, 1708-[1774]. Includes his commonplace book, containing notes, letters and poems, in Latin, English, Greek and French, in Browne's hand, 1708-c.1774; Papers relating to the College collected by Browne, in two volumes, the first regarding the benefactions of the College, especially the eponymous lectures, c.1710-52, and the second, regarding the College's finances, such as accounts of rent charges, land taxes, and annuities, c.1751-54.

The archive spans Browne's career from school onwards, but the core series of records focus on his work as a medical missionary at the BMS hospital in Yakusu, Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of Congo). Section B comprises records for the period 1938-1958, including registers of leprosy sufferers, case records and photograph albums documenting various symptoms. Section K contains further photographs (mainly clinical) for the period 1938-1977, the most important series of which dates from Browne's time at the Baptist Mission Hospital and comprises over 900 negatives and prints together with supporting documentation, 1954-1958.

Section C contains a small number of files compiled by Browne during his research into leprosy, yaws, onchocerciasis and ainhum, 1946-1983. Particularly notable are the files on the anti-leprosy drug B663 (now known as clofazimine), into the use of which Browne conducted pioneering studies whilst director of the Leprosy Research Unit, Uzuakoli, Eastern Nigeria, 1959-1966.The remaining records comprise personal and biographical material, 1923-1985 (section A); general subject files containing correspondence, reprints etc. on a wide variety of topics, 1948-1986 (section D); writings by Browne, 1935-1985 (section E); records of Browne's involvement with the International Leprosy Association, 1909-1985 (section F) and various other organisations, 1959-1986 (section G); records on foreign visits, 1965-1985 (section H); and a few files on religious matters, 1959-1984 (section J).

Papers of Stanley George Browne, 1960s, reflect his work and interest in the field of leprology and contain manuscripts and reprints of articles written by Browne whilst employed by the Leprosy Service Research Unit, Uzuakoli, Eastern Nigeria. Papers of Thomas Egerton Bryant, 1812-1839, comprising notes of lectures by Henry Cline (Jnr) (d 1820), 1814; notes of lectures by Sir Astley Paston Cooper, some together with Henry Cline, 1812-1814; notes of lectures by Joseph Henry Green, 1824-1828; notes of lectures by Alexander Marcet and William Allen, 1814; notes of lectures by Richard Owen, 1839; unidentified lecture notes, c 1812; notes on cholera cases, 1832-1834; and medical notes, early 19th century.

Papers of Wilfred Goddard Bryant, 1905, 1909 and 1919, two travel diaries, with many postcards and a few photographs attached to pages; Journey to Switzerland, 20 May -10 June 1905, and a Week in Lucerne in July 1909, during which Bryant stayed in the Polytechnic Chalets at Seeburg; Journey to Northumberland, June 1919.

The papers relate exclusively to Bryce's service for the Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons. The material is principally correspondence but includes minutes, agendas and circulars and a sequence of printed membership booklets, 1934-1958. There are papers relating to the foundation of the Society in 1933, including the replies to the original invitations to join the Society (sent out by Bryce), to relations between the Society and the American Association of Thoracic Surgeons, and to overseas visits of the Society to Switzerland in 1934 and to Berlin and Bruges in 1937. Later material reflects the adjustments necessitated by the Second World War and the establishment of the National Health Service.
