This constitutes a selection of the correspondence and papers of Clayton, Morris and Co. The majority of the correspondence and documents in this collection are addressed to Sir Robert Clayton, John Morris, and Peter Clayton (nephew of Sir Robert), and date from the second half of the 17th century. In addition, there is some material from the first half of the 17th century addressed to Robert Abbott, and some from the 18th century addressed to Sir William Clayton (nephew of Sir Robert) and Sir Kenrick Clayton (son of Sir William). There are also a few letters of 19th century date addressed to Sir William. The entire correspondence of Clayton, Morris and Co. is grouped alphabetically by the name of the correspondent, and those sections acquired as part of this collection cover the letters B, parts of C, D, F, G, H, M, N, O, P, parts of S, T, W, Y, and Z. The collection also includes receipts, bills, bonds, promissory notes, wills, affidavits, and indentures.

The papers of T L Cleave, a pioneer in the field of nutrition, are predominantly correspondence files, generated by the series of publications in which he outlined his views on the medical dangers of a diet containing refined carbohydrate. The collection reflects the organic growth of an hypothesis, together with supportive evidence gathered from across the world, culminating in The Saccharine Disease, first published jointly with G D Campbell (1966). The majority of the papers are from 1952-1975.

Records of Clerkenwell Magistrates' Court, 1893-1987, including court registers; registers of adoption applications; probation order applications; means enquiries; court minutes recording charges and summons; court note books; probation orders; domestic proceedings including matrimonial cases and bastardy orders; registers of endorsements of driving licences; cash books; gaoler's index of defendants and clerk's papers.

Court registers record the date of the hearing, the name of the informant or complainant (often the police), the name of the defendant, a brief note of the offence and the decision of the magistrate. Court minute books or notebooks are rough notes of the proceedings recording the gist of the evidence given.

Domestic proceedings: A married woman under the provisions of the Summary Jurisdiction (Married Women) Act 1895 and subsequent Acts could go to a magistrates' court and apply for orders which in certain circumstances would enable her to separate from her husband, have custody of any children and receive maintenance from him. Under the Poor Law Amendment Act 1844 a mother expecting a bastard child or who had given birth to one could obtain a maintenance order against the putative father.

Society of Apothecaries of London: Clerks' letter books, 1876-1953, comprise volumes of outgoing correspondence, originating from the Clerks, James Richard Upton (1871-1901), Archer Mowbray Upton (1901-1916), Arthur Bingham Watson (1916-1927), Philip Beaumont Frere (1928-1932), Henry Cooper (1932-1941) and Ernest Busby (1941-1977). Each volume is indexed by subject, name and place and the letters reflect the range of duties, responsibilities and activities of the Clerk on behalf of the Society, as its most senior Officer.

The collection is divided into four main groups: The first group contains papers relating to William Clift's work as conservator of the Hunterian Museum. This is the largest of the four groups and contains a number of sub divisions such as explanation and display of specimens, expanding the collections, administration of the museum, and correspondence. This group also contains the transcripts made by Clift and others of the Hunterian manuscripts. The second group contains work carried out by William Clift as an illustrator for publications. The third group contains a small amount of personal material that is in the collection. The fourth group contains transcripts and copies of manuscript material by William Clift that is held in other repositories such as the Natural History Museum.

Illustrated by a few rough pen-drawn anatomical figures, etc. The first volume is lettered on the spine: 'Anatomical Notes', and 'End of the first volume' is written on the last leaf of text. The second volume is lettered 'Notes.', and appears to be a continuation of another volume now missing. Some of the notes in this second volume are dated January and February 1805.
