The collection comprises diaries of William Hugh Burgess, a fifteen-year old boy from a family of Huguenot descent, who lived in Marylebone in the late eighteenth-century. They are rare examples of historical diaries written by a child.

In what became part of his daily routine from January 1788 until October 1790, William wrote about himself and his everyday life, simply recording what he did and what he saw.

Records of the Field Lane Foundation. The earliest records date to 1842 in its incarnation as the Sabbath School. These comprise management committee minutes which run as a continuous series to 1984 and reflect the change from Sabbath School to Ragged School in 1850.

Important series include the deeds and papers of Field Lane dating from 1801 to 1961. There are also series relating to each of the major homes and organisations associated with or run by the Field Lane Association including the Home Workers Aid Association and the 5 holiday or retirement homes: Eastwood, Dovers, The Priory, Holly Hill and Singholm. There is also a set of annual reports from 1847-1996 and a series of printing blocks used for many of the Field Lanes' publications.

Records of J W Falkner and Sons Limited, 1893-1982. This collection consists of administrative material including office files and correspondence (1902-1963); financial records including ledgers, cash books and accounts (1893-1964); and plans and files relating to the various commissions the company undertook (1893-1968).

Records donated by the London Gas Museum, comprising some 400 Ordnance Survey sheets of various scales and editions, 1893-1989. Many have been amended to show property owned or leased by the Gas Light and Coke Company, the Brentford Gas Company or the North Thames Gas Board. These properties tend to be gas works or showrooms. The plans cover only parts of the area north of the River Thames. There are no sheets for areas south of the Thames. A later deposit consisted of staff magazines and photographs for both the North Thames Gas Board and the South Eastern Gas Board.

Comprising documents in English, French, German and Dutch, the collection reflects the company's active involvement in the world quinine market, especially in the years immediately following World War I (1918-1920), as well as its membership of the Association of Quinine Manufacturers in Allied Countries and the Quinine Manufacturers' Association at that time.

Records of Reader Brothers, builders, 1895-1980. The collection consists of three main types of record: There is administrative material which includes both the 'formal' records of Reader Brothers (Builders) Limited, such as the Memorandum and Articles of Association, Minutes of meetings, Registers of Members and records relating to shares; as well as various accounts ledgers, cash, petty cash and wages books, diaries and notebooks.

Secondly there are files, planning applications and other legal documents - some with plans attached.

Then there are books and other printed material related to the building trade and lastly there are plans and drawing of housing projects undertaken by the company.

Each company collection contains corporate records which can include minutes of meetings, memoranda and articles of association, registers of directors and members and corporate agreements. Some companies, for example Taylor Walker and Company Limited and Cannon Brewery Company Limited, have large collections of premises records including early title deeds and mortgage agreements, schedules of properties and inventories. There are numerous items of interest including an album of Taylor Walker advertising cuttings from 1950s (LMA/4433/C/04/001) and photographs from the official opening of the Alperton Bottling plant in 1951 (LMA/4433/E/01/010).

Records of Taylor Walker and Co Ltd, brewers, 1759-1972. This collection contains corporate, staff, premises and miscellaneous records. Corporate records include minutes of directors' meetings, articles of association and copartnership, registers of seals and supply agreements. Staff records include minutes of Employees Representative Committee meetings. Premises records include early title deeds for brewery premises as well as for individual public houses and mortgage records. The miscellaneous series comprises an album of advertising cuttings.

Each company collection contains corporate records which can include minutes of meetings, memoranda and articles of association, registers of directors and members and corporate agreements. Meux's Brewery Company Limited has a large collection of premises records including early title deeds, mortgage agreements and schedules of properties. There are numerous items of interest including legal papers relating to a court case between Meux's Brewery and the Marquis of Aylesbury circa 1902 (LMA/4435/A/01/011) and a complete set of end of year accounts 1931-1984 for Claude-General Neon Lights (LMA/4435/F/009).

This collection contains records from several business types, breweries, gin distillers (J and W Nicholson and Company Limited), neon light manufacturers and sign makers illustrating the wide variety of functions carried out by Allied Breweries and it's companies.

Records of J and W Nicholson and Company Limited, gin distillers, 1897-1986. This collection contains corporate and premises records. Corporate records comprise a change of name certificate and premises records include documents relating to individual public houses and premises, mortgage information and a plan of The Richmond Hotel, Hammersmith.

Corporate records of Whitbread and Company Limited, brewers, including minutes of various corporate meetings (1889-1977), articles of association, partnership documents covering all major partnership agreements including the original agreement between Mr. Whitbread and Mr. Sewell dated 1761, documents relating to the establishment of the limited company including reports and property valuations, papers regarding Company shares, trusts, agreements and patents, contract books, directors' fees journals, registers of seals (1890-1979), royal warrants (1927-1973), policy documents and Company correspondence.

Also included are a substantial collection of managing director Sir Sydney Nevile's papers covering not only all aspects of his work at Whitbread but also his other commitments such as the Institute of Brewing and the Brewing Advisory Committee.

Papers of the Rycaut, Shorediche and Churchward families, including histories of the families; family letters; despatches and notices; press cuttings; historical notes on Ickenham church; papers and photographs relating to Ickenham manor house; and papers of Paul Rycaut Stanbury Churchward relating to his military service in South Africa and India.

Records of the Canons Park Estate Company Limited, 1640-1929, including printed copy of the abstract of title of the Canons Park Estate Co to "all that capital messuage or mansion house called "Canons" with the park gardens, pleasure grounds, lodges, stables and outhouses, buildings, lands and hereditaments thereto belonging situate in the parishes of Little Stanmore and Great Stanmore", 1860-1898; lease of Canons Manor by Sir Robert Stone, 1640; various assignments of term and conveyances; letter from James Drake of Canons Park to the Parish Overseers suggesting that 100 poor children of the parish of Little Stanmore should be employed in the lace making industry, 1813; report on local charities by Committee appointed by Great Stanmore Parish Council to Sir John Fitzgerald, Chairman of Great Stanmore Parish Council, 1929; legal documents and accounts relating to land in Wirksworth, Stafford, Derbyshire and Lincoln.

Records of the Connop family of Enfield, chiefly title deeds to property that members of the family acquired. This was situated for the most part in Enfield and its neighbouring parishes in Hertfordshire and Essex, Hatfield, Waltham, Cheshunt and Chingford, and was consolidated by the first Newell Connop and his sons.

Much of the material is in original bundles, each consisting of the deeds for one property; many of these bundles conclude with a conveyance to Newell, and those that do not, pass by inheritance or marriage into the family. For that property which is not conveyed either to the Connops or any of their relations, one can only assume that later deeds have not been kept with the earlier ones.

In another way also, the collection is incomplete; in his History and Antiquities of Enfield Robinson states that at the time he was writing (1823) Newell Connop held the Manors of Durrants and Suffolks. There is nothing in the collection at all relating to Suffolks, and although there is a schedule of the deeds for Durrants, drawn up in 1832 (ACC/0801/1126), there are no actual deeds. Nor are there any for Grapes Farm, stated by Robinson to be the main manor farm.

Deeds do exist however for the small manor of Elsings or Norris' farm, which Newell bought in 1804 (ACC/0801/0283-0305). There is also a survey of all Newell Connop's land in Enfield taken in 1804, which unfortunately does not now include a map, and a book of maps each beautifully drawn and coloured of his Essex estates 1803-1814 (ACC/0801/1045-1046). One of the most interesting items among the Enfield deeds is a sales particular for the Forty Hall and Manor of Worcester estate of Eliab Breton in 1787 which includes as Lot 22 the old royal palace of Elizabeth, noting that it stands in a good position for building and the palace when demolished would provide much building material. (ACC/0801/0043).

The collection also includes property transactions, sale particulars and related papers, family papers and wills.

Papers of the Tatem family relating to the Weir Hall estate, Edmonton. The documents relate mainly to the partial sale of the estate in the 19th Century and gradual urban development in the early 20th century.

Records of the Bateman family relating to their property in Ealing, Elbow Lane (later Little College Street) in the City of London, Tottenham; and out of London in Chesham, Buckinghamshire; and Kimberworth, Yorkshire (this latter including coal mines).

Title deeds for property in Edmonton owned by the Bowles family, 1786-1835; property in Highgate owned by the Gould family, 1724-1795; and properties in Ashford, Stanwell, Staines, Enfield, Hornsey and Pinner, 1684-1885.
