Records of the London and North Western Railway, comprising plans of alterations to premises owned by the Company in Adelaide Road, Alexandra Road and Finchley Road, all in the borough of Camden. The plans are undated but are thought to be 1910-1939.

Records of London and North Eastern Railway Company, 1926-1944. This series consists of 45 deeds, leases and licences to sublet company land, particularly for the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley, Blandford Square, Circus Road, Loudoun Road, Marlborough Hill, Wellington Road in St. Marylebone and Alexandra Road and Broadhurst Gardens in Hampstead. The majority of the deeds contain plans.

This collection comprises: a statement of the rates and tithes owed by Phineas Davis and Henry Ward, 1834; a report of the Vestry Committee on the receipt and expenditure of the Middlesex County Rate in Saint Marylebone, 1835; Metropolitan Police criminal returns and comparative statistics, 1831-1836; and lists of voters in Ealing.

Records of the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society, relating not only to the everyday administration of the Society (Acc/2899/01 and Acc/2899/02), but also to social and educational activities. Acc/2899/03 contains a large quantity of information relating to the latter. The London and Lancashire Insurance Company Limited records comprise constitutional documents, minutes, annual reports and accounts, seal books, policy registers and other administrative papers.

They may be freely consulted with the exception of a few items less than 30 years old which may only be seen with the permission of the depositor, from whom permission must also be sought to publish any material.

Board meeting minutes of the London Amicable Assurance Society Limited.

Records of the London Aged Christian Society consisting of early minutes of the Gentlemens and Ladies committes and later joint committee minutes; annual reports, financial records and pensioners cases and some historical notes and rules of the Society.

Records of James Lock and Company including series of day books (1781-1969, with gaps) and order books (1805-1998, with gaps). There were always two order books in use at any one time, one in the shop and one in the office, and as a result the dates overlap in many volumes. There is also a series of rough order books, called waste books (1798-1819), and special order books series for ladies' hats, for hunting wear and foreign and export orders. There are product statistics for 20th century. Very few product drawings, or fabric samples are included (for samples for special orders 1995-1998 see B/LK/422).

All these series contain similar elements of information, namely the customer's name and address, description of hat ordered and the total cost.

The collection also contains financial records, including ledgers, cash books, customer accounts and bad debts which summarise outstanding payments due from customers; staff salaries (1927-1954) (B/LK/619) and R Lincoln's executors account (B/LK/254).

These include minutes of all main committees, papers of the Pension Manager, annual reports and accounts, member ledgers, individual scheme reports, actuarial valuations of the Fund and schemes, and Fund publicity material.

Records of Lloyd's of London, marine insurers. IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING ACCESS: Except the Captain's Registers, these records are stored at the Guildhall Library site rather than the LMA Clerkenwell site. Researchers wishing to access these records should do so at the Guildhall Library Rare Books table. The Library is open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 to 16:45. Researchers will need to have an Archives History Card or a Library Readers Card. An archivist will be available at Guildhall Library on Thursday mornings to answer any queries.

The majority of the collection dates from 1771, with deeds 1585-1949, and includes minutes of the Committee, of the Council and of general meetings; letter books; subscription books; loss and casualty books; war casualty books; deeds and other papers relating to the offices on the corner of Lime Street and Leadenhall Street; and papers relating to the Lloyd's Medal for Saving Life at Sea, the Lloyd's Medal for Meritorious Service and the Lloyd's War Medal for Bravery at Sea.

Also in the collection are the Captain's Registers. These list certificates of competency awarded to men intending to be masters or mates of foreign going merchant ships; and form a directory of qualifed personnel, 1869-1947. The registers include destinations and casualies such as sinking or collisions. For detailed information about the registers please see the sub-fond entry Marine Records, CLC/B/148/B.

Also in the collection are papers relating to signal stations, including reports, legal agreements, histories and register of ships passing North Shields station. The signal stations were operated by Lloyds both in the UK and abroad. They gave notice of vessels in distress, noted the weather, and reported all passing vessels that gave their name to the station. This latter meant ships could be tracked and made Lloyds the recognised clearing house for global shipping intelligence.

Post-1944 material in Mss 31570-1 and 38565 is closed.

Papers, 1852-1949, collected by the solicitors in the course of their work, comprising deeds and legal documents relating to properties at 35-41 King David Lane, Shadwell and at James Smith's Estate at Peckham; including leases, mortgages, probates of wills, assignments, declarations, certificates, plans, abstracts of title, conveyances, deeds of covenant and death certificates.

Papers collected by the solicitors in the course of their work, comprising an assignment of premises in Saint Katharine's Dock and a brewhouse in Smithfield, 1685; and extract of the will and probate of Dean Perkins of Newman Street, Saint Marylebone, 1781-1783.

• Notes on the Wardens' accounts of the Founders' Company, 1497-1681 (now GL Ms 6330/1-2). Include an analysis of company income and expenditure throughout the period.

• Fellowship Porter badge, issued October 1873, of a Robert Slaymaker, with an acknowledgment of his payment of the association's admission fee and a copy of his freedom certificate of the City of London (September 1873).

• Petition from the Watermen on the Thames to Oliver, Lord Protector, and the Privy Council. The petition is on behalf of the watermen and many hundreds of poor men complaining that the ballast officers are preventing watermen and many others who gain a living thereby from providing river ballast for ships. It further alleges that the ballast engines used by the ballast officers are harmful to the river. The document includes circa 700 names, roughly half of which are signatures and the other half are names and marks (of illiterate men). The petition is not dated but it can be dated between 1653 and 1658 as it is addressed to the Lord Protector.
