Papers of Cecil Henry Desch consist of correspondence (CHD/1) to and from various recipients, including Henry Edward Armstrong, John Oliver Arnold, Henry Balfour, Herbert John Fleure, Henri Frankfort, John Vernon Harrison, Sir John Linton Myers and Harold John Edward Peake; mainly relating to geology, archaeology, metallurgy and honours.

Manuscript volume, [1522-1566], containing a description of the offices of the King's Remembrancer's and Lord Chamberlain's Departments of the Upper Exchequer, and an account of their duties, with an enumeration of grudges and complaints and a suggestion of remedies for them. A second memorandum, possibly written between 1531 and 1533, discusses the problems of financial administration.

Manuscript volume containing a list of twelve different castes of inhabitants of Bombay, India, 1828, with particulars of their trades, customs, countries, and food, with a few remarks on the names of their priests, holidays, dress, and marriage and burial customs.

Letters and papers of René Desgenettes, 1793-1813, mainly official orders relating to medical services in the French army in Egypt, of which he was physician in chief. With a few letters from Desgenettes to his wife. The letters and papers concerning the Egyptian campaign complement Desgenettes' own published account, Histoire médicale de l'Armée d'Orient (Paris, 1802), which was largely compiled from copies of his out-letters.

The archive consists of letters from Charlotte Despard to Charles Wilson (1920-1932) ; photograph of Mrs Wilson (c. 1920); and a diary of a trip to the USSR (1930).

The letters cover the periods 1920-1922 and 1930-1932, and were written to Mr Charles Wilson of Willington, County Durham, Mr Wilson was a political activist who worked with the Durham miners, and Mrs Despard lectured to his students in 1921 and 1930. In the letters Mrs Despard refers to Mr Wilson's poetry; she also sent him a poem that she had written. She refers to her own political activities, in Ireland, lecturing for the Labour Party against British Policy in India. She also mentions several of the illnesses that were beginning to restrict severely such activities.

Papers of the Deutscher Fichte-Bund, [1930-1939], comprising propaganda pamphlets entitled 'The Truth about Jews in Germany' and 'Jewry and Penal Punishment' and correspondence of Thomas Kessemeier, Propagandaleiter I of the Deutsche Fichte-Bund relating to distribution of propaganda and D Hoerke, organising secretary of Bund zur Pflege personlicher Freundschaften mit Auslandern.

The bulk of this microfilm collection consists of material emanating from the Deutsche Arbeitsfront (DAF), 1933-1939. Included are documents marked 'secret' which record the prevailing views within the Deutsche Arbeitsfront on the extent of industrial action in the Third Reich and other issues relating to industrial relations. There is also a considerable amount of correspondence from the DAF to the company Wilhem Edel, margarine manufacturers, covering a variety of matters related to worker/employee relations. In addition there are number of publications and periodicals on the subject.

Papers relating to the Devis family of artists, [1781]-1954, comprising items from the Tupper family papers, notably a Devis, Malham and Marris family tree, [1820]-1850, biographical details of family members, [1835]-1854; information collected by Sydney Herbert Pavière relating to the Devis family from various sources, including details of Devis and Marris family members from parish and civic records, correspondence with the Royal Academy of Arts about the family, [1950], photographs of original documents signed by members of the family, [1781-1785]; correspondence to Sydney Herbert Pavière concerning lectures about the family, and possible purchase of Devis pictures, [1950-1954], notably from Sir William Forster and the Rt Hon Lord Biddulph; extract and cuttings from printed material concerning the family, 1937, 1952.

Papers of Devitt and Moore. Those relating to vessels owned, chartered and loaded by the company include: copies of registers of vessels, 1859 to 1897; voyage books, 1883-1917; lists of sailing ships and steamers loaded by Devitt and Moore, 1836 to 1926 and F Green and Co, 1839 to 1918; a log book of the Port Jackson, 1908 to 1909; the log books of the Medway, 1912 to 1913, 1915 to 1916 and one log book of the St George, 1920 to 1921. The business records include: ledgers, 1903 to 1907, 1914 to 1921; cash books and journals, 1910 to 1914 and letterbooks, 1911, 1916 to 1920. the records relating to officers and cadets include lists of ship's officers and cadets, 1864 to 1916; registers of apprentices 1868 to 1899, 1902 to 1903, 1906 to 1917; and registers of midshipmen, 1897 to 1917. In addition there are three volumes of newspaper clippings, 1904 to 1918, note books, miscellaneous correspondence and papers relating to the history of the company, plans of vessels, photographs and sailing schedules.

This collection consists predominantly of notes, correspondence, press cuttings and printed matter on subjects such as British industries (including aviation, tin, steel, cotton and coal), prices and wages, restrictive practices, and economic development overseas. The collection also contains some personal papers including bank books and university notebooks.

Papers of the Devonshire Square (Particular) Baptist Church and predecessor church the Turners' Hall meeting. The records comprise memoranda and constitutional documents, minutes, records of membership and attendance, and financial material. They were catalogued by a member of Guildhall Library staff.

Petavel papers - St Louis exhibition 1904, relates to the reproduction of Dewar's low temperature work for the exhibition with notes on the exhibition. (DVII) War work 1915-1918, includes letter and papers on work for the war effort, World War One.

Papers of Kenneth Dewar, consisting mainly of letters received, including some from Admiral Sir Herbert Richmond (q.v.) and drafts and memoranda relating to Dewar's Admiralty service, there being little official or other correspondence relating to his career afloat. Private and family letters, and papers concerning the court-martial arising out of the Royal Oak affair, were presented subject to certain conditions and access to them remains restricted. There are also diaries kept for both the First and Second World Wars and official service documents.

Records of the Dewell family of Brentford, relating to property in Old Brentford, New Brentford, Hanwell, Chiswick and Isleworth, including wills, leases, extracts from court rolls and legal opinion.
