Manuscript copy of 13 Charles II c.2, or 'An act for confirmation of judicial proceedings', enacted in Dublin' on 12 Jun 1661, and printed by William Bladen in 1661. The English act is 12 Charles II c.12. The manuscript may have been bound with the printed copy of the act, now item 6 in a Goldsmiths' Library volume (Ref: G.L. F) lettered 'Acts Charles II-1660-82'. The manuscript is accompanied by 8 leaves containing legal notes in a contemporary hand.

1. Leaf containing part of scholastic commentary on Psalm 101, 2-5. The exposition is broken up into paragraphs. The manuscript was written in England in the 14th century.
2. Letters, dated 1695, issued by the Greffiers of the Court of the Small Seals for Contracts, Paris, recounting proceedings before the notaries Jean Herrard and Charles Gaugnard which involve Pierre Rémy and others, Master-Tailors of Paris. With a printed heading.

Correspondence and papers created by William Baly and his family; Francis Baly, his mother, William Baly, his father, Frances (Fanny) Shipp, nee Baly, and Elizabeth (Bessy) Baly, his sisters, 1807-1878. Includes correspondence between Baly and members of his family and friends, and between members of his family about Baly, spanning Baly's life and career. Documents relating to the Westminster Bridge inquisitions, 1739-1746. The documents relate to the acquisition of land in Westminster. For each case there is a precept for summoning a jury, a list of jurymen and their resulting inquisition. The list records the general location of the property and the owner or leaseholder concerned.

Records of Gaol Delivery Sessions for Middlesex prisoners, held at the Old Bailey, 1754-1887. The series OB/C/J is an index of charges (indictments); OB/C/P is a list of prisoners. OB/REB contains lists of fines (estreats) and bonds (recognizances) imposed in court; OB/SB are the minutes, and OB/RSB the rough minutes, of proceedings in court; OB/SP are the loose administrative papers (sessions papers) relating to the business happening in court - exisiting for the years 1755 - 1759, 1761, 1764-1790, 1792, 1796; OB/SR are the sessions rolls, the official documentation of the judicial procedure at the sessions. Some of the sessions papers are uncatalogued at present (Feb 2010).

Records of the Worshipful Company of Grocers, 1345-2000. The records of the Company include registers of freedom admissions from 1346 and of apprentice bindings from 1457. There are also items relating to schools administered by the Company, including: Witney Free Grammar School, Oxfordshire; Hackney Downs Grammar School; Oundle School, Northamptonshire; and Walwyn's Free School, Colwall, Herefordshire. In addition, the Library holds the Company's "Black Book" (Ms 11570) which dates from 1345 and contains details of the foundation of the Fraternity of Pepperers and its ordinances. The original of the 1345 and later ordinances and its grants of arms of 1532 and 1562 have been lost.

Witney Free Grammar School (former references: MS 11631 - 11632). The records, in 14 production units dating between 1670 and 1939, comprise constitutional documents and accounts only. They were deposited with records of the Grocers' Company in 1965 and 1996 and catalogued by Guildhall Library archivists.

Hackney Downs Grammar School (former references: MS11633 - 11635A, MS11821, MS11906 - 11907, MS11912, MS11914, MS39816). The records, in 19 production units dating between 1873 and 1907, comprise minutes, accounts and reports only. They were deposited by the Grocers' Company at various dates since 1965, and catalogued by members of Guildhall Library staff.

Note that many loose papers, relating to every aspect of the Company's business, and dating from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century, were gathered together, sorted and placed in 277 boxes and a further ca.430 bundles by the Company in ca.1925-30. Most of these boxes, and all surviving bundles, were deposited in the Manuscripts Section in 1996, and their arrangement has been retained with minimal alteration as Mss 34100-1. Readers should therefore be alert to the possibility that papers on any particular subject of interest to them may be contained within these two series, but obscured because the online catalogue does not include the detailed list contained in Ms 34102, though cross-references from the rest of the catalogue have been provided where possible.

Records of Worshipful Company of Plaisterers. The records of the Company were compiled between 1571 and 1953, but they include deeds dating from 1545. They also include a translation of the 1501 charter. Records include a register of freedom admissions, 1763-1874; quarterage books, 1604-34 (incomplete) and 1661-97; Court minute books; financial accounts and records relating to properties.

• Scrapbook of miscellaneous printed items, facsimiles and copies of documents relating to the Barber Surgeons' Company, 17th-19th centuries.

• Transcripts of original charters, bye-laws etc relating chiefly to various London livery companies, made for Sir Francis Palgrave as Commissioner of Enquiry into the Municipal Corporations.

• Various legal documents including apprenticeship indentures and leases.

• Rules or bye-laws for the government and regulation of the freemen of the Company of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames, their widows and apprentices and the boats, vessels and other craft to be used or worked by them, set down by the court of Mayor and Aldermen; official copies, signed by the Town clerk and examined by a High Court judge.

• A complete list of the apprentices bound to the freemen of the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers of London; also a complete register of the freemen of the same, with index.

• Catalogue of the pictures and statuary in Drapers' Hall, with descriptions of the stained glass windows and biographical notices of benefactors of the Company, 1884.

• An account of the Worshipful Company of Drapers and its benefactors, 1885.

• Parish clerks' certificates of searchers' reports on viewing dead bodies, stating the name of the person and the cause of death, 1815 - 1834.

• Notes, press cuttings and extracts from books, articles, statutes and Founders' Company archives relating to weights and measures, with special reference to the right of the Company to size and stamp brass weights, compiled ca. 1854.

• Alphabetical list of freedom admissions and apprenticeship bindings within the Worshipful Company of Poulters, 1620-1694.

• List of the Master [sic] Wardens and Court of Assistants and Livery of the Worshipful Company of Drapers, 1831.

• Extracts from records of the Skinners' Company and from minutes of Court of Common Council relating to the interests of the Skinners' Company in the Irish plantation, late 17th century.

• Notes on parish clerks and the Parish Clerks' Company, ca. 1321-1940, by Harry McClintock Harris (1857-1959), parish clerk of St Stephen Walbrook and past master of the company. Compiled ca. 1940. Much of the source material for these notes was destroyed by enemy action in 1940.

• Alphabetical list of apprentice bindings in the Coachmakers' and Coach Harness Makers' Company, 1677-1800, compiled in 1937 by G. Eland and F. Wall.

• Index of apprentices bound, freemen and liverymen admitted, and assistants, wardens and masters elected in the Coachmakers' and Coach Harness Makers' Company, 1803-93; compiled 1985.

• Notes on the Wardens' accounts of the Founders' Company, 1497-1681 (now GL Ms 6330/1-2). Include an analysis of company income and expenditure throughout the period.

• Fellowship Porter badge, issued October 1873, of a Robert Slaymaker, with an acknowledgment of his payment of the association's admission fee and a copy of his freedom certificate of the City of London (September 1873).

• Petition from the Watermen on the Thames to Oliver, Lord Protector, and the Privy Council. The petition is on behalf of the watermen and many hundreds of poor men complaining that the ballast officers are preventing watermen and many others who gain a living thereby from providing river ballast for ships. It further alleges that the ballast engines used by the ballast officers are harmful to the river. The document includes circa 700 names, roughly half of which are signatures and the other half are names and marks (of illiterate men). The petition is not dated but it can be dated between 1653 and 1658 as it is addressed to the Lord Protector.

Records of Coleman Street Ward, Corporation of London. The records comprise wardmote minutes, rate assessments and accounts, and lists of jurymen and inquest men. They were catalogued by members of Guildhall Library staff at various dates.

Records of the Greater London Inner North District Coroner's Court, comprising case papers, 1965-2000. Please note these papers are subject to a 30 year closure period.

For the closed period researchers are advised to consult local newspapers for references to inquests. In very rare cases where medical or legal questions are involved, information from closed records may be made available. It will be necessary to contact the Coroner currently in charge of the court concerned, who has the power to release transcripts or details of inquests to suitable applicants.
