Papers, 1820-1964, collected by the company in the course of their work, comprising deeds and legal documents relating to properties in Acton, Chelsea, Ealing, Enfield, Hanwell, Harrow, Perivale, Pinner, Southall, Teddington, Twickenham, and Willesden; including conveyances, leases, building agreements, building licences, assignments of leases, abstracts of title, mortgages, sales particulars, admissions and covenants to surrender.

Papers collected by the solicitors in the course of their work, comprising abstract of title of representatives of J.Goddard to premises in North Street (Basil Street) Brompton Road and Hans Crescent, Knightsbridge, including references to Harrods. With plans. 1954.

Records of the Manor of Newington Barrow, Islington. The collection consists of 20 manor court rolls, 2 duplicate court rolls, and a manor survey. The court rolls document the proceedings of courts both baron and leet. Until 1560 these were held on separate occasions, courts baron more frequently than courts leet. The latter were held approximately once a year, on 3 May. From 1560 both courts were conducted on the same occasion. The proceedings of courts both leet and baron are recorded on the same roll, in date order, throughout. The rolls are predominantly of parchment.

Tenure of the manor from 1877 is untraceable, and the immediate provenance of the rolls is unknown. The presence of annotations on tags attached to certain entries indicates however that the rolls were retained and referred to long after they were created. Most of the rolls include lists of courts held, either on their wrappers or on membranes added to the existing rolls. The labelling of each roll with alphabetical letters also implies they were arranged at a later date so as to be accessible for frequent reference. Gaps in this alphabetical sequence, and in date order, suggest the collection is incomplete. Envelopes postmarked Nov. 1852 and addressed to M G Taylor, Solicitor, 40 Regents Square, London, are attached as markers to rolls dating from 1602, indicating that the collection was at one time in the custody of a solicitor.

Notes on the wrappers indicate that most of the rolls created before 1634 were examined in Chancery by James Symes and Robert Heyhoe, acting on the behalf of Thomas Austen, who was then the defendant in a suit brought by Dame Margaret Hungerford. The nature of the dispute is unknown, but Dame Margaret was the daughter of William Halliday, owner of the Mildmay Estate. This estate, which Margaret inherited in 1645, originated in a copyhold of the Manor of Newington Barrow, and it seems likely therefore that the dispute concerned land tenure.

Records of the West London Synagogue of British Jews, 1840-1973. The archive consists mainly of financial records such as cash books, ledgers, journals, accounts books and financial statements, with two scapbooks containing advertisements, news cuttings, programmes and tickets for special events.

Records of the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society, relating not only to the everyday administration of the Society (Acc/2899/01 and Acc/2899/02), but also to social and educational activities. Acc/2899/03 contains a large quantity of information relating to the latter. In the main the records date from the beginning of the twentieth century to the 1970's, although there is a sizeable amount of earlier material, and a small amount for later years

Records of the Gordon family relating to premises on Brewery Road, Islington; presumably connected to the family brewing business.

Records of J R Eve of Hitchin, valuers and surveyors, 1879-1932. The documents relate to the work carried out by the London office when assessing the value of property for rating purposes, and for the most part to the time when Herbert Trustram Eve was head of the firm. J.R. Eve and Sons were often employed by local authorities to undertake the re-evaluation of properties in their area. This collection includes material relating to work carried out for the Hendon Union and Parish of Harrow, the Borough of Paddington Assessment Committee and the Willesden Chamber of Commerce. Reference books form a significant part of the collection - they take the form of small notebooks bound in green card and appear to have been taken by the surveyor to the site of the properties which he was surveying. The books were used for making notes about the composition of buildings, acreage of land etc. They show the calculations made by the surveyor when assessing rateable values. The notes are sometimes rough, usually in pencil, and the dates are not always apparent. The collection also includes a selection of general cases which show other aspects of the firm's work.

In particular there are detailed registers of tenants (including information on income and employment), hundreds of photographs of estates and developments and correspondence giving advice from people such as Octavia Hill and Charles Booth.

This small collection consists of two minute books (containing records of both Directors' and Annual General Meetings) which from 1921, the year in which Caffin and Company was incorporated. There are also various miscellaneous papers, a draft debenture agreement, and a document relating to Caffin (Africa) Limited.

Papers in this collection cover three main areas of interest, Stamford Hill Bus Garage, TGWU Branch 1/312, Public Transport Workers Jobs Campaign (Leaside District) and trade union publications such as Busworker and Transport Worker. The main archival interest of the collection are the branch resolutions of Stamford Hill Bus Garage, TGWU Branch 1/312.

Records of Collyer Bristow and Company, solicitors, 1781-1975. The catalogue has been divided into three sections. The first consists of records dealing with the administration of the company, and includes day books and clerks' time books; the second section deals with the financial records of the firm.

The third, and largest, section is concerned with clients' administration. Records in this section include lists of clients' papers held or returned by the firm, and registers recording probate, insurance, property transactions and periodical payments made to a third party on behalf of the client.
