Records of J R Eve of Hitchin, valuers and surveyors, 1879-1932. The documents relate to the work carried out by the London office when assessing the value of property for rating purposes, and for the most part to the time when Herbert Trustram Eve was head of the firm. J.R. Eve and Sons were often employed by local authorities to undertake the re-evaluation of properties in their area. This collection includes material relating to work carried out for the Hendon Union and Parish of Harrow, the Borough of Paddington Assessment Committee and the Willesden Chamber of Commerce. Reference books form a significant part of the collection - they take the form of small notebooks bound in green card and appear to have been taken by the surveyor to the site of the properties which he was surveying. The books were used for making notes about the composition of buildings, acreage of land etc. They show the calculations made by the surveyor when assessing rateable values. The notes are sometimes rough, usually in pencil, and the dates are not always apparent. The collection also includes a selection of general cases which show other aspects of the firm's work.

This collection of Gimbert family papers dates from 1838 to 1992, covering four generations, and consists mainly of personal records of family members. It includes an apprenticeship deed from 1838 (see ACC/3094/002), some army records, some nineteenth and early twentieth century family photographs and the genealogical notes kept by various family members through the years.

Records of Collyer Bristow and Company, solicitors, 1781-1975. The catalogue has been divided into three sections. The first consists of records dealing with the administration of the company, and includes day books and clerks' time books; the second section deals with the financial records of the firm.

The third, and largest, section is concerned with clients' administration. Records in this section include lists of clients' papers held or returned by the firm, and registers recording probate, insurance, property transactions and periodical payments made to a third party on behalf of the client.

Records of the Court of the Chief Rabbi, London Beth Din, 1904-1988. The bulk of the archive transferred to London Metropolitan Archives are the administrative papers and general correspondence of the Court, and in particular that of the Clerks and Registrar. There are also files concerning consultations the Beth Din undertook with the Government on the Matrimonial and Family Proceedings Bill in the 1980s. Some correspondence and rough notes of the individual Dayanim and records relating to work done with refugees in the Second World War have also been deposited.

The records comprise: notes on the history of St Bride Fleet Street [1800]; topographical collections relating to London and Middlesex [180-]-1825; transcripts of early 16th and late 17th century documents concerning St Paul's Cathedral, compiled 1785 and late 18th century; topographical collection relating to St Paul's Cathedral, 1779-1854; and correspondence with the Dean of St Paul's, 1795-1797.

Records of William Russell, broker. They comprise ledgers 1875 (Ms 14936), statements of values of securities 1901-17 (Ms 14937) and statements of account 1917-44 (Ms 14938).

The Salaman family papers are a collection of deeds, documents and accounts arising from settlements and trusts under the wills of Myer Salaman (died 1 April 1896) and Nathan Salaman (died 18 April 1905). The properties mentioned in the deeds are in the City of London, Islington, Hammersmith and Westminster. Also includes ostrich feather auction sales catalogues.

These records comprise account books of funerals performed by John Houghton Wickes, 1816-36 and by John Houghton Wickes and Alfred Nelson Wickes 1840-7 and 1855-66.

Papers of John Wilkes, politician, including a narrative of events concerning his controversial political weekly North Briton; and letters from Wilkes regarding his political and social life and views, the Buckinghamshire militia and the pistol duel he fought with Lord Talbot, lord steward of the royal household, over an insult in the North Briton.

Records of the Land Tax Commissioners for the City of London, including a number of administrative papers (see Ms 11295-315, 11318-20) and also a fine run of assessment books for the City, 1692/3-4 and 1703/4-1949, arranged by wards (Ms 11316-317D). The run of assessments are particularly valuable as they predate those for most counties, which only survive from 1780, when duplicate returns had to be lodged with the Clerk of the Peace.

The Tower Division of Middlesex covered the area to the east of the City of London including Hackney, Whitechapel, Spitalfields, Shoreditch, Wapping, Norton Folgate, Poplar, Stratford, Bow, Mile End, Bethnal Green and Stepney. The records comprise land tax assessment books arranged by parish.

Records of the City of London Imperial Volunteers comprising nominal rolls, pay lists, communications, minutes, correspondence and other papers.

Records of the City of London Territorial and Auxiliary Forces Association comprising: minute books, 1908-68 (Ms 12606-14); papers relating to the establishment, constitution and membership of the association, 1907-54 (Ms 12615); annual reports, 1947-55 (Ms 12616), balance sheets, 1951-1954 (Ms 12617); and correspondence, orders and other papers, 1945-1967 (Ms 12618-26). The records comprise: Civilian Committee minute book, 1941-7 (Ms 14387); attendance book, 1941-7 (Ms 14388); welfare papers, 1941-55 (Ms 14389); and scrapbook, 1941-6 (Ms 14390). They were catalogued by Guildhall Library staff in 1972.
