Manuscript volume titled Experiments Physiology 1776, 1776-1777, comprising notes of experiments carried out on dogs, cats, and on eggs. Including the names of persons present during the experiments. The script of the volume's title is in the handwriting of William Clift, however the text inside does not belong to Clift. In his catalogue of manuscripts, Victor Plarr suggests that the text is by a Scot experimenting at John Hunter's house.

Volume 1st, containing manuscript notes by Clough of lectures by Hunter, including a copy of a portrait of Hunter by J Thornwaite; a volume titled Lectures Anatomical and Chirurgical by William Hunter, Physician Extraordinary to her Majesty, Professor of Anatomy at the Royal Academy, and Fellow of the Royal and Antiquarian Societies. 1779. Volume 2nd, containing manuscript notes by Clough of lectures by Hunter, covering topics such as embalming, c 1779. Including patient case notes, 1779-1792, and a letter from Mr Wyatt to Clough, 14 Apr 1792, regarding publishing a case; and a volume titled Lectures Anatomical and Chirurgical by William Hunter, Physician Extraordinary to her Majesty, Professor of Anatomy at the Royal Academy, and Fellow of the Royal and Antiquarian Societies. 1779. Volume 3rd and sub-titled Lectures on the Gravid Uterus by William Hunter, MD and FRS, 1779, containing manuscript notes by Clough of lectures by Hunter.

The collection is divided into four main groups: The first group contains papers relating to William Clift's work as conservator of the Hunterian Museum. This is the largest of the four groups and contains a number of sub divisions such as explanation and display of specimens, expanding the collections, administration of the museum, and correspondence. This group also contains the transcripts made by Clift and others of the Hunterian manuscripts. The second group contains work carried out by William Clift as an illustrator for publications. The third group contains a small amount of personal material that is in the collection. The fourth group contains transcripts and copies of manuscript material by William Clift that is held in other repositories such as the Natural History Museum.

Papers of Francis Trevelyan Buckland, 1826-1872, comprising 2 commonplace books (1826-1860, 1860-1872) containing newspaper cuttings; letters, including some from Sir Benjamin Brodie, Richard Owen and John Quekett; photographs; and miscellaneous items collected by Buckland. Also including a volume titled Descriptive and Illustrated Catalogue of the Physiological Series of Comparative Anatomy contained in the Museum of the Royal College of Surgeons in London: Vol. 1 (1852) presented to Buckland in 1864 by the Council in recognition of his work in identifying the coffin of John Hunter, so that it could be reinterred in Westminster Abbey. Inserted in the volume are letters and other information relating to this event, including rubbings of John Hunter's coffin plate.

Papers of Alexander Peter Buchan, 1799-c 1824, comprising 2 volumes. Volume 1 contains manuscript notes and insertions concerning human longevity. The insertions are from James Easton Human Longevity: recording the name, age, place of residence, and year, of the decease of 1712 persons, who attained a century and upwards from AD 66 to 1799, comprising a period of 1733 years with Anecdotes of the most remarkable (Salisbury and London, 1799). Volume 2 contains a manuscript translation of Mssrs A Seguin and Lavoisier Respiration of Animals (Academy of Sciences, 1789).
