Heilbrunner's account of life in Dachau, 1933, is a typescript memoir of Jewish inmate, Heilbrunner, in 1933. Written in the form of a narrative in the first person; structured into four chapters, describes in some detail the conditions in the camp and the brutality of the camp guards, contains manuscript annotations and corrections.

Papers of Robert Michaelis, [1962-1972], comprise original source material, 1056/1; drafts and notes, 1056/2 and printed source material, 1056/3 regarding the Dreyfus affair. Original source material includes correspondence including that of Marcel Thomas, conservator at the Bibliothèque Nationale and Robert Michaelis regarding the authenticity of recently discovered documents relating to the Dreyfuss affair; drafts and notes include an annotated draft of Der Prozess Dreyfus and printed source material including newspaper cuttings and various publications concerning the Dreyfus affair.

Papers of the office of Reichsführer SS, 1938-1944, mostly emanate from the office of Reichsführer SS and deal with administrative matters. The collection comprises correspondence between the office of the Reichsführer SS and Reichskulturwalter Hans Hinkel (mainly) regarding administrative and cultural matters, 1939-1944 and an incomplete monthly information sheet Befehle und Mitteilungen, 1939-1942. It most notably includes two original letters from Reichsführer SS, Himmler (1144/1/14-/23); an incomplete set of an in-house information sheet providing instructions to SS members on a variety of matters such as dress protocol for visits to concentration camps by SS members (1144/2/4); qualification for wearing the 'Death's Head' ring of the SS (1144/2/2); and orders forbidding membership of clubs deemed inappropriate.

Papers of Helmut Strauss, 1945-1948, comprise an identity card (Kennkarte) Deutsches Reich of Helmut Strauss, issued in May 1945 in Halle/Saale; temporary travel document in lieu of passport of Helmut Strauss, issued in March 1948 by the military government of Germany containing exit permit and visa for Switzerland.

Papers of Eleanor Hess, 1872-1990s, document the life of a German Jewish refugee to Great Britain, and, in part, the lives of family members. The papers include emigration and citizenship papers of her grandfather Emil, c1870s; certificates and First World War army records of Julius, her father and correspondence from Eleanor and her brother, Herbert, in Brazil, to their mother, c1950s. The collection includes 2 boxes of family photographs. In addition there is an unpublished memoir of Eleanor, which describes the life of a Jewish girl in Nazi Germany and the experience of emigration to a foreign land.

This diary covers the period of her incarceration at Theresienstadt,12 February 1945-1 July 1945 and is preceded by an 11 page personal account of life under the Nazis from 1934. An addition to the original foreward, dated 1975, suggests that this version is a transcript copy. The bulk of this microfilm collection consists of material emanating from the Deutsche Arbeitsfront (DAF), 1933-1939. Included are documents marked 'secret' which record the prevailing views within the Deutsche Arbeitsfront on the extent of industrial action in the Third Reich and other issues relating to industrial relations. There is also a considerable amount of correspondence from the DAF to the company Wilhem Edel, margarine manufacturers, covering a variety of matters related to worker/employee relations. In addition there are number of publications and periodicals on the subject.

The papers include committee minutes, reports, memoranda, circulars and correspondence detailing all aspects of the organisation's activities. Also included within 602/8 is a file of transcribed correspondence regarding Gross-Breesen, a non-zionist training camp set up by the Reichsvertretung to prepare young people for life abroad.

Copies of correspondence to and from Julius Kühl, 1935-1982, chiefly relating to the plight of Jews in Nazi occupied Europe. Many organisations and individuals are represented notably the The Hilfsverein für jüdische Flüchtlinge im Shanghai (Aid organisation for Jewish refugees in Shanghai)(HIJEFS) although several other Jewish refugee organisations are also represented, namely Agudas Jisroel, Schweizerischer Israelitischer Gemeindebund and Va'ad Hahatsala. The majority deal with the fate of Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe. In particular they document attempts to rescue individuals, families and larger groups by channelling funds and securing visas for that purpose. The provision of food parcels to concentration camp inmates is also reported. In addition the tensions which sometimes arose between the different refugee organisations are reflected here.

Correspondence of Heinz Werner Löwenstein, documenting his experiences as a German Jew who emigrated to South Africa in 1935, and the experiences of his parents who remained in Berlin, and who disappeared after having been transported to Riga, Jan 1942. 643/1-4 consists of correspondence between Heinz Werner Löwenstein and his parents, 1935-1940. The letters provide an interesting account of the difficulties encountered by a young immigrant trying to make his way in South Africa as well as of the life led by Jewish people in pre-war Berlin. The letters make hardly any reference to the political situation and the real hardships and dangers of the parents' lives are hidden. 643/5 comprises correspondence from Heinz Werner Löwenstein while he was a sergeant in the South African Army to his friends, Hans and Milly Hirsch, 1941-1943. There is an uninterrupted flow of letters describing life in the army in North Africa until June 1942. In October, the correspondence resumes with a post card from an Italian POW camp. This is followed by more frequent letters after his repatriation in April 1943. The letters not only give a very vivid picture of life in the army and in the POW camp, they are also testimony to the close friendship between Löwenstein and Hans Hirsch, who had known each other in Germany since before their emigration.

Secret Hungarian papers regarding British involvement in the history of Hungary, [1959] comprise copied reports by Hungarian Foreign Office officials regarding the role of Britain in the history of Hungary, 1937-1945.

Papers of French Jewish and anti-racist organisations, [1920]-1938, comprise a copy of an extract regarding Alliance Israélite Universelle and letter from the same organisation concerning the struggle against antisemitism in France, [1920]; reports on various subjects addressed at 2ème Congres International du Rassemblement Mondiale contra le Racisme et l'Antisémitisme, July 1938, including racism and antisemitism in North Africa, the international problem of immigration, the activities of the World Assembly Against Racism, self defence for free people, organisation and propaganda and demand for a law against racism, 1938 and various papers concerning antisemitism in France with reference to a number of organisations, 1937-1938.

Papers of Joyce Weiner, 1933-1934, comprising copies of correspondence from Arnold Zweig to Weiner on the subject of his literary problems, 6 Sep 1933-30 Dec 1934; copy of a letter from Lola Sernau to Weiner, 3 Aug 1933 and a short biographical account of Weiner, 8 Apr 1934.

Correspondence and papers documenting the experiences of Frank Henley (formerly Otto Lichtenstein) when he came to England on the Kindertransport, 1938, chiefly comprising instructions sent by the Provinzialverband für jüdische Wohlfahrtspflege in der Rheinprovinz, the organisation responsible for the well-being of Jews from Cologne; also including his train and boat ticket and his identity card with photograph.

A microfilm copy of the central registry of membership of the Reichskulturkammer (RKK), 1930s-1940s, arranged alphabetically by individual surname. Originally maintained by the personnel section of the RKK, index cards have been supplemented by entries made by Allied occupation authorities. For each individual, one or more cards provide: name and address, birthdate and place, profession, RKK membership data and notations regarding political reliability and racial background. Also included in some instances are annotations from the Allied occupation authorities on denazification proceedings and artists' acceptibility for post war performances.

Jews in Hungary collection, notably comprises Was sollen wir den Antisemiten antworten?, statistical information regarding the population of Jews in Hungary between 1920 and 1930 extracted from official Hungarian government statistics and a transcription from an antisemitic Hungarian Nationalist Party notice.

The personal papers of Vicky Abrams, 1900-1989, notably comprise her personal papers and correspondence, 1031/1/1-206; personal papers and correspondence of other family members, 1031/2/1-108 and material regarding Neu Beginnen, 1031/3/1-12.

Vicky Abrams's personal collection comprises the bulk of the total papers and notably contains a Vienna University report book, 1925 (1031/1/1); references from Abrams employer Das Magazin, 1933 (1031/1/2-3); Gestapo protective custody order, 8 August 1938 (1031/1/7); release permit from KZ Lichtenburg, Pretin, Saxony,13 March 1939 (1031/1/8). The collection also includes photographs including portraits of Abrams taken in KZ Lichtenburg (1031/1/15); correspondence from Abrams to her family in Vienna, written from prison [mostly KZ Lichtenburg]; correspondence between Vicky Abrams and the following former comrades and authors of articles about Neu Beginnen: Georg Müller, Helga Lichtenecker, Henry Hellmann, Ernst Lowe, Rainer Sandvoss, Otto Sperling and Richard Loewenthal (Rix). The collection also comprises writings of Vicky Abrams including poetry written in Jauer prison camp, Saxony, 1937-1938 (1031/1/202); draft accounts of life for women in Nazi prison camps, (1031/1/205).

The second section of this collection contains papers and correspondence of Abrams family members (1031/2/1-108) most notably from Hans Julius to the family ; the third section, concerning Neu Beginnen, notably contains copy documentation and articles about Neu Beginnen including a copy indictment against members of the organisation, dated 27 August 1936; articles about Neu Beginnen (1031/3/2 and 1031/3/4) and obituaries of Walter and Ernst Lowe (Löwenheim) (1031/3/6-9).

Papers of Alfred Pavel Peres, 1939-1948, including minutes of discussions held initially between President Dr Edward Benes and Dr Peres and later also including Dr G Beuer, Dr J Zimmer, Dr Popper, and Dr Girschick, signed by Peres. The subjects of the discussions are wide ranging and necessarily reflect the changing situation vis a vis the effects of war. They include problems regarding the Sudetendeutsch, the formation of a Czech government in exile (-/2); problems of Czech refugees (-/3); report regarding Czech soldiers in France. The papers also include correspondence between Peres and Benes, Jan Masaryk and others. These papers document, in part, the activities of Czech exiles in London during the war and the situation in Czechoslovakia in the immediate post war years.

Papers of Kurt Ferber, 1932-1949, comprise a set of correspondence between Kurt Ferber and a friend in Berlin, Olga Bruewitsch-Heuss; material relating to the Kampfbund für deutsche Kultur; miscellaneous contemporary newspapers and cuttings; and unidentified notes. The correspondence is of particular interest for it provides insight into the mentalities of two ordinary German citizens with special reference to their political and cultural interests. From the content it is clear that Olga Bruewitsch-Heuss is a fervent follower of the Nazis and a virulent anti-Semite.

Material, 1938-1996, regarding the fate of Jews in Vienna during the Nazi era including: extract from Viennese street directory; register of assets of Martha Sara Waldmann, 1938; property declaration form, 1938; situation report regarding the deportation of Jews to Poland, 1942 and papers relating to an exhibition on the Viennese Jewish community during the Third Reich, 1996, including script of a German documentary Später Besuch (Belated Visit) and handouts at the exhibition.

Papers of Political Intelligence Department, 1945-1946, comprise news digest bulletins regarding conditions in post-war Germany and Austria compiled by the Political Intelligence Department of the Foreign Office. Subjects include reports on the Bergen Belsen trial and the Nuremberg War Crimes trial and other war crimes trials. Also reports on the social economic and political conditions of Germany and Austria in the immediate post-war years.

Papers of Harold Fraser, 1923-1924, consist of two parts, copies of correspondence from Harold Fraser in Hamburg, to his employers, Helbert, Wagg and Co, merchant bankers based in London, c 1923-1924 (1567/1) which describe the era of hyper-inflation, unemployment and political unrest in Germany; and a translation of a letter entitled, 'A letter from my father about his experiences during the siege and the German occupation of Warsaw', 1940 (1567/2).

Papers of the Inow family, 1938-1939, consist of correspondence between Renate Inow, in England, her sister, Margalit in Sweden and Palestine and their parents in Wuppertal, Germany. The collection comprises 2 parts: an unbound volume of translations and partial translations of letters addressed to Margalit mostly whilst she was in Sweden entitled 'Voices from the Past'. The collection includes reproductions of photographs of the parents and a family tree.

Papers of Rudolf Hess, 1939-1985, comprise copies of correspondence and papers regarding the imprisonment of Rudolf Hess at Spandau Prison.

The televison programme included detailed accounts of life in hiding in Berlin during World War Two; experience of capture, interrogation by Jewish collaborators and Gestapo and betrayal by Jews; Mischlinge; Fabrikation; Siemens; Rosenstrasse protest; Grosse Hamburger Strasse; life in Berlin before the war.
