The collection contains photographs used to illustrate newspaper stories for the Hull Daily News about events in London. The photographs cover a range of subjects and have been organised thematically into 25 series, including: life in London during the Second World War and post-war reconstruction; transportation in London (including railways, roads, rivers and airports); churches; memorials and monuments; bridges; hotels; office buildings; foreign embassies; museums and art galleries; hospitals; sporting venues; markets; government buildings and theatres. There are also photographs showing particularly famous streets in London, photographs of palaces and royal residences in London, of the Tower of London, of Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column and photographs of the Palace of Westminster (including Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Hall).

Papers relating to the Claire Rayner novels The Performers, a twelve book series about London which traces a family from the 1800s. The series contains draft manuscripts of each volume along with research, time lines and notes on political events, dress, religion, travel, medicine, foreign affairs, industry and agriculture covering the period during which the novels are set.

These photographs show a variety of images from the East End of London, and in particular the area around Spitalfields, during the 1970s. Included are pictures of churches, a mosque and a synagogue.

These images, dating from 1981 to 1995, are of a number of events in London, as well as changes to the landscape and sights.

Survival Programmes comprises photographs (all black and white), interview transcripts, drafts and other materials relating to the book Survival Programmes by the Exit Photography Group (Nicholas Battye/Chris Steele-Perkins/Paul Trevor). The photographs and interviews were made between 1974 and 1979, and record life in Britain's inner urban areas in the 1970s.

Papers and correspondence, 1949-1991, of Andrew Hake, accumulated during the course of his career in Kenya as an industrial missionary. The papers reflect the diversity of his work and interest in the urban and industrial community in Nairobi. The collection also includes publications collected by Hake, including Kenyan government publications and publications of the National Christian Council of Kenya.
