Mrs Archer and her husband emigrated to South America in 1907 and lived in Argentina and Chile until they returned to England in 1945.
The collection was passed to the Society by Reading Museum in 1976.
Two volumes of handwritten memoires describing the life of Amelia Archer on the Pampas in detail. There are 7 photographs of family groups and six postcards of scenes in the Pampas and at Punta Arenas held, also correspondence with Reading Museum, in a separate envelope.

The memoires are not in chronological order, but a list of "stories" is on the fly-leaf of the smaller volume.
Accessed via the Foyle Reading Room. Free of charge for Fellows, Members and those with valid academic identification. All other users pay a charge and must bring identification in order to register on arrival.
Photocopying at Archivist's discretion, and subject to completion of 'application for copies' form. No reproduction or publication without permission of the RGS-IBG Archivist.
