There are also defined groupings of material, including designs and artwork, which usually relate to specific projects including: typography (contemporary and historical; particularly monotype), printing techniques (particularly colour), transport, Greenwich, architecture, wine, fashion, watercolour painting, book binding and photography. In addition, the collection includes material from the Ministry of Information campaigns during World War Two, including "Dig for Victory" and "Careless Talk Costs Lives" and material relating to the Festival of Britain, 1951.

Papers of Mary Edith Durham, comprise water-colours, drawings and photographs from the Balkans, [1900-1912], many of the pictures are annotated, the paintings and drawings are signed M.E. Durham, 1900 and 17 water-colours, 4 black and white drawings and 2 photographs are mounted. The Architectural Association Archives comprise of the administrative and educational records of the Architectural Association Inc. (1847-), encompassing material related to the AA's governance, legal and financial operations, property holdings and educational activities. To date, less than one quarter of all the AA's archival records have been formally catalogued, with the focus of phase one of the cataloguing having been upon basic administrative records, including Council and committee minute books and agendas, constitutional records, Registers of Directors, property leases and vital company documents. Phase two of the cataloguing process is ongoing and is focused upon the educational records of the AA school, its staff and its students.

Consists of records of the administrative, legal, curatorial and educational functions of the Royal Architectural Museum (RAM). Includes minute books of the Museum's committees and sub-committees, 1851-1904, and subscription lists, 1889-1902. Also comprises of legal documentation regarding the Museum's incorporation, 1888-1893; correspondence relating to royal patronage, 1869-1901; correspondence and documentation relating to the winding up of the RAM and the vesting of its property in the Architectural Association (AA), 1901-1903; correspondence, legal opinions and documentation regarding the sale of the RAM building to the National Lending Library for the Blind, 1915-1916, and property leases, agreements and insurance for the RAM premises and collections, 1869-1913. Two folders of letters from Iris Murdoch to her friend Stephen Gardiner dating from [1973-1990]. Gardiner was an architect known for his work on public buildings, and some of the letters from Murdoch discuss their shared love for art and architecture.

Documents relating to Kingston School of Art (later Kingston College of Art, which merged with Kingston Technical College to form Kingston Polytechnic in 1970). Barbara Constance Freeman collection, 1902-1989, comprises books, sketchbooks, illustrations, photographs, a diary, letters and an audio tape containing a BBC interview with Freeman. Sketchbooks contain pencil drawings including people and animals and the collection also contains notebooks comprising notes on architecture used whilst studying at Kingston School of Art. The collection contains certificates awarded to Freeman and Mary Freeman (possibly her aunt) including Barbara's certificate for passing an examination in drawing, 1926; correspondence including a letter from Ernest Kyle, 1929 and a testimonial requested by Freeman discussing her achievements at Kingston School of Art.

'I laid your proposal respecting the mill at Quemerford [near Calne, Wiltshire] before my Lord Lansdown [i.e. the Marquess of Lansdowne], in answer to which he had directed me to give you, in his own words, his opinion of the use of machinery in the cloathing manufacture - vizt "Nothing can be more mistaken than the prejudice conceived against machinery, nor could be more unfortunate for the country if suffer'd to prevail - for the consequence must be, the transfer of the manufacture either to the North of England, where the prejudice has been got the better of, and where they experience the advantage, or else to foreign countrys - or part to one and part to the other. Records of St Nicholas Shambles parish, 1253-1526, comprising churchwardens' account book, 1452-1526; indulgence from Walter [Cantilupe], Bishop of Worcester, to the parishioners of St Nicholas Shambles, 22 Jan 1253; indulgence from Nicholas, Bishop of Kildare, to all who say the Lord's Prayer and Ave Maria for the soul of Simon de Finchinfield, buried in the church of St Nicholas, 8 Sep 1280.

This series of records comprises the private office papers of Rowland Hill including, Rowland Hill's Post Office Journals, extracts from the volumes of Secretary's minutes to the Postmaster General and some original documentation relating to those minutes, volumes of Rowland Hill's minutes to the Postmaster General, correspondence and general material relating particularly to postal reform and including a copy of all volumes of 'History of Penny Postage' by Sir Rowland Hill, KCB (published by William Clowes & Sons).

This series relates to the conveyance of mail on the railways. In the latter half of the 19th century railway mail services were known as Travelling Post Offices and sorting tenders. During the early 19th century sorting tenders became known as sorting carriages. In general terminology sorting carriages were also often referred to as TPOs. The railway mail service also included bag duties or tenders. TPOs and sorting carriages comprised either special trains run exclusively for conveyance and sorting of mails or carriages on passenger trains hired to convey and sort mails. Bag duties were run solely for transportation of mails.

This series includes papers on the mail bag exchange apparatus, TPO mail circulation and sorting lists, railway rolling stock lists and diagrams, schedules of TPO services, minutes of the TPO Whitley Sub-Committee and files on TPO staffing, during railway strikes and after service alterations.
