The Association for Research into Restricted Growth was co-founded by Dr Sir William Geoffrey Shakespeare, 2nd Baronet, (1927-1996), a general practitioner who took an interest in the conditions causing restricted growth. He had achondroplasia, a genetic disorder that causes dwarfism or restricted growth. His son Sir Thomas William Shakespeare, 3rd Baronet (b 1966) also has achondroplasia. The Association became a registered charity in 1970.

The Association for Research into Restricted Growth was co-founded by Dr Sir William Geoffrey Shakespeare, 2nd Baronet, (1927-1996), a general practitioner who took an interest in the conditions causing restricted growth. He had achondroplasia, a genetic disorder that causes dwarfism or restricted growth. His son Sir Thomas William Shakespeare, 3rd Baronet (b 1966) also has achondroplasia. The Association became a registered charity in 1970.

Papers of the Association for Research into Restricted Growth, 1964-1988, now called the Restricted Growth Association, comprising administrative records, 1970-c 1988; records relating to the Association's links with other organisations, 1976-1987; publications; general correspondence, 1969-1987; correspondence concerning individual cases, 1972-1986; and biographical material relating to Dr William Geoffrey Shakespeare.

Available subject to the usual conditions of access to material in Archives and Manuscripts, by appointment after completion of a Reader's Undertaking, except for the files containing correspondence on individual cases, which are closed for reasons of Data Protection, for periods until 2074-2087.

Photocopies/photographs/microfilm are supplied for private research only at the Archivist's discretion. Please note that material may be unsuitable for copying on conservation grounds, and that photographs cannot be photocopied in any circumstances. Readers are restricted to 100 photocopies in twelve months. Researchers who wish to publish material must seek copyright permission from the copyright owner.
