Biographical history
The Atlas Assurance Company was established in 1808 and transacted life and fire insurance business. A venture into general accident insurance in the 1880s was unsuccessful. It was based at 92 Cheapside (1901), and was acquired by Royal Exchange Assurance (CLC/B/107-02) in 1959.

The Atlas Assurance Company was established in 1808 and transacted life and fire insurance business. A venture into general accident insurance in the 1880s was unsuccessful. It was based at 92 Cheapside (1901), and was acquired by Royal Exchange Assurance (CLC/B/107-02) in 1959.
The archives (except Mss 16155-64 and 16177-9) were deposited in the Manuscripts Section of Guildhall Library by Guardian Royal Exchange in 1976 and 1994. Mss 16155-64 and 16177-9 were deposited via the British Records Association in 1976. The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
