GB 0117 AV 1931 Collection (fonds) 288 items to date. Various

Audio-visual recordings by or about Fellows of the Royal Society. The bulk of the collection consists of audio material, in particular cassette recordings of the Society's named lectures, which have been preserved in this manner since 1974. The remainder of the series has been acquired as supplementary material to the Personal Records (q.v.), although there are a few items which predate those autobiographies.

The collection is arranged as follows: AV/1 Tape recordings;

AV/2 Videotapes;

AV/3 Films;

AV/4 Records;

AV/5 Compact disks;

AV/6 Webcasts;

AV/7 Digital Video Cassettes;

AV/8 DVD (Digital Versatile Discs).

Several items are dictabelts for which the Society has no suitable playback facilities; it is intended to reproduce these as standard cassettes.

There is a handlist to the collection, updated as new lectures are recorded, and a small card catalogue appended to the General Card Catalogue which acts as an index to contributing Fellows and other scientists. Information given in each includes: subject or title of the work recorded/ author, contributor or speakers/ date/ venue (if appropriate)/ medium/ extent/ playback speed (if appropriate)/ location within the series.
