There is no unifying factor to these papers (e.g. that they relate to property owned by one estate or family or the legal work of one office), they were simply collected for their antiquarian interest before being passed to the archive.

These records were part of an ad hoc collection of miscellaneous records built up by John Bennett of West Mersea, Essex, and bequeathed to the Essex Record Office in 1984. The Essex material has been retained at Essex Record Office, whilst the non-Essex records have been dispersed to other record offices.
