The Blair-Bell Research Society was initially established as a research club to informally discuss obstetrical and gynaecological issues at meetings held approximately every three months. In 1961 the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists agreed that the society could use College premises as a regular venue for the club's meetings. From 1962 the club is referred to in College correspondence as "the Blair-Bell Research Society", and the College President has usually been the Society's president.

It is probable that the files were removed from the College Presidents' file series because of their content prior to transfer to the Archives.

Correspondence of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists with the Blair Bell Research Society, primarily concerning with scientific meetings held by the Society in the College, and including some minutes, 1960-1972.

The organisation of meetings and courses generates many ephemeral papers. In almost all cases files have been weeded of all papers except for those listed under scope and content.

No further accruals are expected. Later correspondence concerning the Society will be found within its correct context as part of the Presidents' records.

The records are arranged as outlined in the scope and content.
