Biografie
Cartwright was the son of the Rev Edmund Cartwright (1743-1823), inventor of a power loom, and his first wife Alice (d 1758). He was the author of Parochial Topography of the Rape of Bramber (1830). His three sisters, Mary Strickland, Elizabeth Penrose and Frances Dorothy Cartwright, were also published writers.

Cartwright was the son of the Rev Edmund Cartwright (1743-1823), inventor of a power loom, and his first wife Alice (d 1758). He was the author of Parochial Topography of the Rape of Bramber (1830). Bought from Tregaskis in 1912 (about 2 months after Ludlow's books were sold at Hodgson's).
Letter from Edmund Cartwright of Lyminster, Arundel, [Sussex] to [the Editor of the Edinburgh Review], 29 Jan 1828. Describing the services rendered by his late father in the invention of the power loom and the inadequacy of the Government grant of £10,000, which 'did not repay one fifth part of loss which his family sustained, and which, as his only son, has continually fallen on me'. With the letter are 7 printed verses which Cartwright senior had desired 'might be engraven on his tomb'.
