Richard Clark was Alderman for Broad Street Ward 1776-98, Lord Mayor 1784-5 and Chamberlain of London 1798-1831. He died in 1831.

The provenance of these items is unknown, but they were probably a purchase by or gift to Guildhall Library in the late 19th or early 20th century. They were catalogued in 1938 (revised 1981) by members of Guildhall Library staff. The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
