John Dixon Comrie was born in 1875 and trained as a physician. He pursued a career as a physician and medical historian. In 1908 he became responsible for teaching Medical History at Edinburgh University, while from 1927 to his death in 1939 he was Physician to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

John Dixon Comrie was born in 1875 and trained as a physician. He pursued a career as a physician and medical historian. In 1908 he became responsible for teaching Medical History at Edinburgh University, while from 1927 to his death in 1939 he was Physician to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

The collection comprises material on medical history: an address to the Royal Medical Society on ancient medicine (MS.1776), his inaugural lecture in the history of medicine (MS.1777) and an address on ancient Hindu medicine (MS.1778).
The material is held in chronological order of composition.
The papers are available subject to the usual conditions of access to Archives and Manuscripts material, after the completion of a Reader's Undertaking.

Please note that material may be unsuitable for copying on conservation grounds, and that photographs cannot be photocopied in any circumstances.
