Holborn Viaduct was begun in 1863 and finished in 1869; designed by William Heywood, the City Surveyor. It bridged the valley of the Fleet river and connected Holborn with Newgate Street. As part of the construction, Holborn Circus, Charterhouse Street and St Andrew's Street were also built.

Deposited in the Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section, which merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
A descriptive account of the Holborn Valley Viaduct, opened by the Queen on the 6th November 1869, and carried out under the direction of the Corporation of London by the Improvements Committee.
The account is divided over 3 folios.
