Membership of the Council included several Fellows of the Royal Society, and it was deemed appropriate on the winding up of the affairs of the Council that its records be transferred to the Society's archives.

Papers of the Council for Science and Society comprising 138 files; 2 volumes of minutes and associated loose papers and 19 printed books or pamphlets issued by the Council, 1972-1990. The types of records include minutes of the Council meetings and Executive Committee meetings, Financial sub-committee papers and accounts, annual reports, correspondence, press cuttings and miscellaneous items, The series was stored in a single four drawer filing cabinet. (contents now transferred to boxes).
