Born in Birmingham in 1811, Thomas Creswick studied under J V Barber and is best known for his landscapes of the north of England and Wales. He was London-based, and from 1828 exhibited 266 works at the Royal Academy, the British Institute and elsewhere. He died in 1869.

Provenance unknown, but given the subject matter it is possible that it came to the Library as part of the Goldsmith's Collection.
Small mounted oil painting by Thomas Creswick, of a steam train passing Leighton Buzzard on the London and Birmingham Railway line. A note on the reverse suggests that the work was painted in 1837.
