The East African Trypanosomiasis Research Organization (formerly called the East African Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Research and Reclamation Organization) was based in Tororo, Uganda. Its Director, from 1957 to 1963 was William Hepburn Russell Lumsden, MD, FRSE, FRCP(Ed) (b 1914).

East African Trypanosomiasis Research Organisation

The East African Trypanosomiasis Research Organization (formerly called the East African Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Research and Reclamation Organization) was based in Tororo, Uganda. Its Director, from 1957 to 1963 was William Hepburn Russell Lumsden, MD, FRSE, FRCP(Ed) (b 1914).

The photographs (Sections A-J) were given to the Wellcome Tropical Institute in November 1988 by William Hepburn Russell Lumsden, former director of the East African Trypanosomiasis Research Organization. In 1989 the archives of the WTI were transferred to the Wellcome Library.

The Annual Reports comprising Section K (Acc.No.959 part) were given to the Wellcome Library in July 2001 by Pamela Lumsden, wife of W.H. R. Lumsden.

The collection is a small one, comprising two main sections: photographs of EATTRRO (including buildings, individuals and procedures), 1958-1961; and Annual Reports, 1949-1974.

Open. The papers are available subject to the usual conditions of access to Archives and Manuscripts material, after the completion of a Reader's Undertaking.

Photocopies/photographs/microfilm are supplied for private research only at the Archivist's discretion.
