Papers on Nana Asma'u include copies of her manuscript poems (1820-1865) and later papers relating to her work, including translations, 1976-1984. Papers on works by Shehu dan Fodio include copies of his poems on male-female relationships (1789 and undated) and later papers relating to his work, 1975-1981. Papers on works by Asma'u's female relatives and descendants include copies of poems and writings by various authors (c1860-1934 and undated) and later papers relating to the subject, c1950-1990. Papers relating to the Bristol and Exeter Railway Company, comprising printed letters to shareholders, reports of directors, reports in newspapers and notices of requirement of land to build the railway, addressed to Charles Fox and Sarah Fox of Wellington, Somerset.

The records of Section F principally concern the annual conferences of the British Association and the involvement of the Section in them, 1973-1998.

The bulk of the collection consists of files which mostly contain correspondence and minutes. They also include programmes for the conferences, publishing contracts, financial accounts, draft copies of articles and lectures.

In addition to these files, there is a selection of the publications which were produced by Section F, including some of the publications of the proceedings of Section F at the annual conferences of the British Association. Finally there are various exhibits which were part of the 'British Economists' exhibition by Leslie Smyth at the University of Keele.

Research papers of Sir Henry Phelps Brown, covering wages and prices during his lifetime, and a further collection of papers relating to research and public work, including book reviews, an enquiry into the mobility of labour and a brief autobiography.

This collection is divided into two parts, one being material produced by Edwin Cannan himself and the other being his extensive library of books on economics. The material produced by Edwin Cannan himself is numbered 891-1033. This consists of notebooks, notes for lectures, drafts of published works, agreements and correspondence with publishers, and private correspondence. This correspondence covers many aspects of economics and many economists, and includes material on the affairs of the London School of Economics. Edwin Cannan's extensive library of books, numbered 1-890, covers economics in Europe from the 17th-20th centuries.

The collection consists of chapters, drafts, notes and correspondence of Ralph Davis on published works (1971-1979); tables and statistics concerning overseas trade, exports and imports in the 18th and 19th centuries; teaching materials, course notes, etc (1964-1975); correspondence (1965-1978).

The bulk of this microfilm collection consists of material emanating from the Deutsche Arbeitsfront (DAF), 1933-1939. Included are documents marked 'secret' which record the prevailing views within the Deutsche Arbeitsfront on the extent of industrial action in the Third Reich and other issues relating to industrial relations. There is also a considerable amount of correspondence from the DAF to the company Wilhem Edel, margarine manufacturers, covering a variety of matters related to worker/employee relations. In addition there are number of publications and periodicals on the subject.

The collection contains minute books, council papers and correspondence, treasurer's records, correspondence and papers relating to the Economic History Review, correspondence with other academic societies, papers relating to Economic History Society conferences, papers on Society personnel, and surveys relating to the teaching of economic history in schools and universities.

Manuscript volume containing an account of the public revenue of England, Nov 1688-Mar 1702, with an abstract for the whole period.

Papers of Dr Stephen Epstein relating to medieval and early modern European economic and social history, c 1960-2007 mainly research material including listing of books and microfilms, notes, index cards, copies of articles, newspaper cuttings, maps, and lectures' handouts. Also Epstein's correspondence with archives' staff and academic colleagues relating to his research. The papers comprise personal correspondence between G Elton Mayo and his wife, Dorothea and his daughters, Patricia and Gael, 1913-1947. Dorothea Mayo expected her husband to write to her daily whenever he was away and the result is a series of diary style letters sent during their periods of separation. The fullest series are for 1922-1923 when Mayo visited the USA prior to settling in Philadelphia and for the period from 1929 to 1937 when Dorothea remained in England with their daughters.
The second series of correspondence comprises letters to his daughters while they continued their education at Bedales in England and during World War Two. The correspondence is mainly with his eldest daughter, Patricia, though there is some correspondence with Gael and also Patricia's first husband, Walter Goetz.
Both series of letters contain detail on Mayo's work and life at Harvard, including meetings with colleagues, lectures and research projects. In addition there is discussion of books, ideas and people which influenced his work and thinking. The World War Two letters include comments on the war from the USA and detail events leading to Gael's escape from behind German lines in France with her son and first husband.

Rees' papers on Simone Weil largely comprise translations, typescripts and proofs for Rees' publications on Weil. There are also some writings by Weil; a photograph of her, 1942; letters to Rees from Weil's mother and brother, André, and other correspondence on Weil, 1958-1970; press cuttings on Rees' publications on Weil.

Rees' papers on R H Tawney, relating to his role as literary executor, include correspondence and papers of Tawney; Rees' correspondence on Tawney, largely dating from 1960-1970; correspondence and papers relating to the sale of Tawney's belongings and his will, with other personal documents relating to Tawney and his wife; correspondence relating to the disposal of Tawney's collection of books on economic history, 1952. The correspondents include a number of prominent literary and other public figures.

The later deposit comprises a typescript on Orwell and a typescript and corrected proofs on Murry.

Records of the River Gambia Trading Company Ltd, 1860-1920, including accounts, ledgers, stock books, invoice books, cash books, wages books, expenses books, receipt books and letter books. Also includes: papers regarding the Bathurst Trading Company of Mincing Lane, London; papers regarding the will of Richard Lloyd (died 1853) of Bathurst, Gambia and Harriet Fanny, his wife (died 1855).

The collection of primarily bound volumes comprises the business documents of Robert Newman and Co., and related companies, 1774-1955. The documents themselves include letter books, journals, ledgers, account books, memorandums and ship registers, and relate chiefly to trading in Newfoundland, Canada. Many of these internal working documents were originally intended to serve as permanent records. They can provide the researcher with a general overview of the financial and statistical history of the firm, giving a record of transactions as they occurred. In addition, they offer a degree of descriptive information, showing the development of codes and ciphers used by the firm, an insight into labour relations, and a detailing of the raw materials used for trade.

An unpublished typescript of a work that had been accepted for presentation for a University of London PhD (external) in June 1961 entitled 'The diplomatic and economic history of the Somali Coast Protectorate from 1884 to 1897'. The author died in September 1960 and the typescript volume entitled 'The Frontiers of Somalia' has been compiled from his literary remains. The work is incomplete, as it only contains four sections of seven.

Manuscript volume containing Letters Patent of King James I, 1622, addressed to Henry Montague, Viscount Mandeville and several other Lords, Knights and Esquires, appointing them Commissioners on a Standing Committee on Trade. This manuscript would seem to be a contemporary copy of the original document, containing the composition of and the instructions issued to what was practically the first English Board of Trade.
