Biografie
Baron Ernst von Feuchtersleben (1806-1849) was a distinguished philosopher, poet and critic who qualified at Vienna University in 1833. In 1840 he was secretary of the newly founded Vienna Medical Society, and in 1844 professor of mental diseases becoming Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in the next year. In the national troubles of 1848 he was Under-Secretary of State, but shortly resigned as his liberalizing views were rejected. His patients were frequently from the Viennese artistic and literary circles.

Personal correspondence and papers of Baron Ernst von Feuchtersleben, mainly relating to medical topics and to the Faculty of Medicine in Vienna, 1826-1858. The papers are mainly copies of medical texts with mansuscript annotations and copies of medical essays by him - some unpublished. Also, his case book 1836-1842. The records often relate to the Viennese Medical Faculty, his interest in medical education, and addresses given by him. The correspondence is primarily from medical colleagues in Austria and Germany.
The papers are available subject to the usual conditions of access to Archives and Manuscripts material, after the completion of a Reader's Undertaking.

Please note that material may be unsuitable for copying on conservation grounds, and that photographs cannot be photocopied in any circumstances.
