The collection consists of circulars issued by the Education Department of the London County Council and circulated to various Local Education Authorities as well as other memorandums and correspondence. The material concerns the possible and eventual evacuation of children and other vulnerable groups from London from 1939 until 1952. There is little information that is specific to Battersea, Wandsworth and individual schools, instead the material focuses on nationwide policies and initiatives. Most of the circulars seem to have been received by the Battersea Divisional Offices in St John's Hill.
The material has been grouped chronologically.
This material is only available in the Wandsworth Heritage Service search room at Battersea Library. Please contact Heritage Service staff for more information.
