Sir Walter Morley Fletcher, KBE, CB, FRCP, FRS (1873-1933), was a physiologist.

These papers were received by the Contemporary Medical Archives Centre from Sir Walter Morley Fletcher's son, Professor Charles Fletcher, in April, May and October 1980, and in further accessions from the family in December 1983 and December 1991.

Papers of Sir Walter Morley Fletcher, physiologist, 1885-1933, including correspondence, 1885-1933, reprints, 1898-1914, kymographic tracings, diagrams and photographs, 1902; one file of correspondence and articles on artificial respiration (Schafer method), 1907-1908.

Arranged in sections as follows: 1) Biographical material, late 19th century - late 20th century; 2) 'Survival respiration', 1902; 3) Artificial respiration, 1907-1908; 4) Unpublished lectures, etc., c 1895-1930; 5) Published lectures, broadcasts, letters to press, etc.; 6) Bound volume of reprints, 1898-1914, entitled 'Physiological Papers', Biographical material, 1898-1914; 7) Family correspondence, 1886-1933 and 8) Other correspondence, 1890s-1920s.

The papers are available subject to the usual conditions of access to Archives and Manuscripts material, after the completion of a Reader's Undertaking.

Photocopies/photographs/microfilm are supplied for private research only at the Archivist's discretion. Please note that material may be unsuitable for copying on conservation grounds, and that photographs cannot be photocopied in any circumstances.
