Richard Garnett, (b. Feb. 27, 1835, Lichfield, Staffordshire, Eng. d. April 13, 1906, London), English writer, librarian, and the head of the Garnett family, which exerted a formative influence on the development of modern British writing. From the age of 15 until his retirement in 1899 he was in the employ of the British Museum.

Richard Garnett, (b. Feb. 27, 1835, Lichfield, Staffordshire, Eng. d. From the age of 15 until his retirement in 1899 he was in the employ of the British Museum.

No records on transfer to the Archives, found in Archives store in November 2010. Likely to have originated with a donation of books to the Palace Library by Sir Sidney Lee, along with a library accession register listing the books.

Letter to Sir Sidney Lee 17 January 1904, attributed to Richard Garnett (1835-1906). Refers to his views on Shakespeare, the plot of the Tempest, critical of Dr Anders publication 'Shakespeares Books' published 1904.
