[Wilfred] Brian Gough was born in 1909; in 1932 he obtained his MB and ChB at Birmingham and also passed MRCS and LRCP. He spent his career in Birmingham, as a general practitioner and also Anaesthetist to the Solihull Hospital and the Birmingham and Midlands Hospital for Women. He was a Fellow of the BMA and of the Royal Society of Medicine, and President of the Birmingham Medical Institute. He died in 1999.

These papers were placed in Birmingham University Archives following Dr Gough's death, possibly by his daughter (see MS.7847, which had been presented by her to the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust).

These papers were received in three small box files and in no particular order. They have therefore been sorted into sections reflecting the different aspects of Dr Gough's life and career. Arranged in sections as follows: A Personal; B Career and professional; C Organisations and institutions; D Medical History; E Patient correspondence [CLOSED until 1 Jan 2075].
Certain restrictions apply. The patient correspondence in section E is closed until 1 Jan 2075.
Photocopies/photographs/microfilm are supplied for private research only at the Archivist's discretion. Please note that material may be unsuitable for copying on conservation grounds, and that photographs cannot be photocopied in any circumstances.
