In 1986, Granada Television Ltd screened a series of four programmes on the history and current state of Apartheid in South Africa. The four parts covered successive periods of time, and each was individually produced.

Archival history

The material was deposited in ICS by one of the producers, Norma Percy, through the offices of Shula Marks, then Director of ICS and an adviser on programme 4, in 1990.

In 1986, Granada Television Ltd screened a series of four programmes on the history and current state of Apartheid in South Africa. The four parts covered successive periods of time, and each was individually produced.

The material was deposited in ICS by one of the producers, Norma Percy, through the offices of Shula Marks, then Director of ICS and an adviser on programme 4, in 1990.

Research materials for the fourth programme of a Granada Television Ltd series on the history of Apartheid in South Africa, covering events during the period 1978-1986. Includes research documents and preparatory material, audio tapes and transcripts of research interviews and filmed interviews, and press cuttings. There is also a series of audio tapes and transcripts of research and filmed interviews for the first programme in the series, covering the origins of Apartheid; and a video tape of the completed version of the first three programmes.

The material has been arranged according to record type: those for the fourth programme have been dealt with first, followed by the tapes and transcripts for the first programme, and finally a small section of materials relating to the completed programmes. The original order of documents, tapes and transcripts within series has been retained.

Open although advance notice should be given. Prior arrangement must be made to listen to audio tapes in particular. Access to individual items may be restricted under the Data Protection Act or Freedom of Information legislation.

Most items may be copied, at the discretion of the Library staff. Copies are supplied solely for research or private study. Requests tp publish, or quote from, original material should be submitted to the Information Resources Manager. Copyright presumed belonging to Granada Television.
