This life assurance company was established in 1844 and incorporated by special act in 1862. It was acquired by National of Ireland in 1882. Its offices were situated successively at 101 Cheapside and 14 Waterloo Place.

Walter Prideaux had been attorney to the Great Britain Mutual Life Assurance Society, 1844-82, and Ms 8809-8818 were deposited in the Manuscripts Section of Guildhall Library by Prideaux and Sons, solicitors, in 1954. Ms 21191 was donated to the Manuscripts Section by the Goldsmiths' Company in 1967. The Guildhall Library Manuscripts Section merged with the London Metropolitan Archives in 2009.
