Biografie

David Hannay was born in London, the son of the novelist and critic James Hannay. He was an historian and journalist and was vice-consul at Barcelona, probably during 1897. He helped found the Navy Record Society. He wrote for the Pall Mall Gazette, the Saturday Review and St James's Gazette. His published works included the lives of Admiral Blake, Tobias Smollett, and Frederick Marryat; a short history of the Royal Navy; and a work on the great chartered companies.

David Hannay was born in London, the son of the novelist and critic James Hannay. He was an historian and journalist and was vice-consul at Barcelona, probably during 1897. He helped found the Navy Record Society. He wrote for the Pall Mall Gazette, the Saturday Review and St James's Gazette. Given to the Library in 1962 by the Hannay family through Professor Peter Foote of the Scandinavian Department, whose wife is a granddaughter of David Hannay.

Open. The papers are available subject to the usual conditions of access to Archives and Manuscripts material, after the completion of a Reader's Undertaking.
