The papers in this collection relate to a four year project funded by the DHSS to set up an Occupational Medicine Department in Bedford Hospital, for the staff: the first such department in this country, initiated in 1967. They include reports to the DHSS and minutes of the committee administering the department. There are also the minutes of a committee set up under the auspices of the Westminster Group to set up an Occupational Health Department, and the tapes and slides used in a tape-slide presentation on occupational health in hospitals.

The papers in this collection relate to a four year project funded by the DHSS to set up an Occupational Medicine Department in Bedford Hospital, for the staff: the first such department in this country, initiated in 1967. They include reports to the DHSS and minutes of the committee administering the department. There are also the minutes of a committee set up under the auspices of the Westminster Group to set up an Occupational Health Department, and the tapes and slides used in a tape-slide presentation on occupational health in hospitals.

These papers were given to the Contemporary Medical Archives Centre (now the Wellcome Library Archives and Manucsripts Department) in May 1992 by Dr Harte on his retirement.

(d) the reader shall respect the confidentiality of any documents or information not connected with their research but which may be seen in the course of it.

Please note that material may be unsuitable for copying on conservation grounds, and that photographs cannot be photocopied in any circumstances. His library of occupational health publications is now in the Library of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine; papers on research into sickness absence over five years among Bedford Hospital staff are in the Bedfordsire Record Office; several hundred slides relating to occupational health problems are now with Professor Harrington at Birmingham University Occupational Health Department.
