Biographical history

In 1867 Herbert Chappell founded a firm of tailors, H. Chappell, at 81 Bishopsgate Street. Chappell was originally from Woodbridge, Suffolk, where his father was also a tailor. In 1892 the business moved to 50 Gresham Street, where it remained until it was sold in 1964. In 1923 the name of the business became Herbert Chappell Limited.
